This may sound real stupid but: make sure you disconnect the battery cable before you start. BIL did a studid--- With the car up on blocks and while wrenching on the starter, the wrench shorted a wire connection against the engine block. Sparks flew, the engine started cranking over, and because he left it in gear it lurched ahead off of the blocks, dropping the car and pinning his head between the frame and the ground. His friend got the car off of him and only minor injuries resulted.
One lucky dude!

It is no fun. I have a very long extension I work in from the front of the engine. It is actually a stud that screws into the transmission. Yes, it is a 14 mm nut on it.

I don't think I have had to replace my starter since I switched to 5W-30 oil 15+ years ago.

I did have to replace the clutch about a year ago, and then a few months later the throw out bearing again I had bought at Oreily's along with the clutch. I have had some bad luck with some of their other stuff too. I think NAPA will be seeing more of me.

I got it out, it looks like the original starter, it was a pain to get out but it should go back in easy, I hope. I had to use a long extension and go under the intake to get the top nut off.

It went back together nice and smooth, I replaced all the battery cables also. It fires up like a new one.

Don't they offer that limited lifetime warranty?

yeah, i think there is a reason for that..... they must know that they are selling some crappy stuff. luckily, i haven't had to use warranty for the parts i've purchased there
