i have just gone around the intake (between the middle runners) and the exhaust ... or you will have to make some hooks to attach to where the intake and exhaust would be if you took them off first

Thanks for the info. - I was concerned that the aluminum head wasn't strong enough.

Most shop manuals will tell you to do it that way. For example, the 3.8 V-6 (aluminum heads) in my Sable comes out like that (per the factory service manual) with the tranny, and that weighs a heck of a lot more than the LUV.

CTMANDU: That clean, shiny aluminum and painted block is pretty. :esurprised :esurprised :esurprised

We pulled ours today with no problems. I hooked one side of the chain to the stud on the intake side of
the head, closest to the water pump.

And the other end to the last stud of the exhaust manifold, closest to the transmission.

other than disconnecting the obvious things going to the engine bay from the engine itself is there anything else you need to take off (i know the hood too)

If you are planning to leave the transmission in, you will need to support it because the crossmember that
supports the weight is at the tail end. Remove the radiator to prevent damaging it. Also the radiator fan.
If yours is an automatic transmission, unbolt the brackets that secure the transmission fluid cooling lines
that run underneath the motor to the radiator.
Basically, unbolt or loosen everything that connects to the engine.

I was able to remove mine the easy way with the intake, carb, fan, exhaust manifold, A/C compressor and
fan belts still attached because I took the truck cab off first... Image
