I am trying to take my '79 luv and build a reliable roadtripper out of it. I will be staying mostly on highways but plan do to mild offroading. It's a 2wd with a '79 engine and 4spd. I am redoing everything from the head up before this trip and was wondering what the best upgrades/modifications would be to the rest of the vehicle.

For instance, I'm wondering what the stock rear gears are for a '79 2wd, and if there is any easy swap from a newer trooper/pup/whatever rearend.

Also, I was thinking weber carb, but which version is best/easiest?

A 5spd would be nice, which isuzu years/models are direct bolt-on swaps? changing front and rear on my driveline is not a problem.

I was thinking about getting a good holley fuel pump and mounting it in an inconspicuous location under the bed with a metal box around it for safety.

Also, whats a good way to lift it a bit for a little more clearance?

Thanks in advance for the wealth of information I keep returning to LuvTruck for :)

I forgot to mention that this is a long bed so I have the two piece driveline.

-Stock gears are 4.10. Isuzu 10-bolt '87 back third member is direct swap, ratio's are 3.42, 3.73, 4.10 & 4.56.
-Weber 32/36 DGEV, get the conversion kit with all the adapters & linkage.
- First thread in Drivetrain Mods forum, or use search, pages of info available. Quick answer- '95 back MSG-5 gas.
-Stock electric fuel pump is tucked behind a crossmember at the back of the cab, if it's good why not use as is?
-Crank the torsion bars in front (1 turn= 1/4"), add a helper spring or longer shackles at the rear.
Header?- Pacesetter #1105 (square ports).
