Both my Luv's are stock 1.8L engines. My '81 2 WD has never gotten less than 26 mpg when I have checked it. I have gotten as high as 31 with it on the highway. My '79 4x4 gets around 22-24.

Like I said these are stock engines with the stock Hitachi carbs. I do plan to eventually try a weber on one of them but it's hard to talk myslef into changing anything with these kinds of results.

I have had 5 luvs through the years. 72, 74, 79 2 wheel, 79 4x4, and like Dog Trainer all were in that range.
