You dont tell them anything.

You give them the block and the pistons and they bore the hole to the size it needs to be.

I grew up in the country and there was only one machine shop in town. If you needed a rebore the guy wouldnt do it unless he had the piston that was to go in it. He did a few motorbikes for me.

Cheers, Bob.

Ok cool, well i guess i shoulda rephrased this then. Im really asking more for me, i just wanna know about how much the block would have to be bored to fit those pistons.

Why those pistons??

Usual procedure is you get the bore in the block measured properly. Then buy the next size up pistons you need that work in it.

No sense jumping up 2 or 3 overbores just for the sake of a few $$$ on a cheap set of pistons. Coz the day could come that you will be looking for a new block becasue yours is all bored out.

@ $30.69 ea thats over $120 for a set. Way too expensive.

Go check it out on eBay. You will find rings and bearings and gasket sets etc for good prices.

Measure it up, heres a STD piston set for $50 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/GM-Isuzu-1980-82-Luv-I-Mark-Pick-up-Piston-Kits_W0QQitemZ230324925607QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item35a06f74a7

Heres a 30 thou set for under $50 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/CHEVY-LUV-ISUZU-110-1-8L-CLEVITE-PISTONS-TC2006-030_W0QQitemZ310107337989QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item4833d67505

My maths is not that good but i make 30 thou the same as .75mm. thats what the pistons were in the link.

Have a real good look about on eBay. You find some good cheap stuff on there.

Cheers, Bob.

If you really do some maths, you could bore it out to G200 bore and put std G200 pistons in it. Flat top ones.
But i think it has to go a fair way and thats a bit hit and miss due to core shift.

$30 without rings.

Youd find rings on eBay. Probably at the same store. But its probably not a good idea.

heres a set of 4 Badger piston made from Hypereutetic Aluminum so they say. They have std .20thou and .40thou
You will find some rings on eBay.
$66 for the set of 4
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1976-85-Buick-Chevy-GMC-Isuzu-4-cylinder-Pistons_W0QQitemZ230340441499QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item35a15c359b

So you had best get it all measured up.
If your getting the guy to bore it, best to take the block to him. If your going to put it together yourself, strip it down and just take him the bare block with the pistons on rods. Get him to measure it and tell you what size pistons. Order them straight away, you will have them soon enough. Drop them into him and not long after that you can go pickup your freshly bored block with the pistons allready fitted to the rods. They are press fit, best to get him to do it. Take it home and put it together.
Talk to the machine shop guy first. Best to take the crank and show it to him and get him to check it, if it needs machining (spun bearing) your probably best to buy another motor. If you have some bearing shells still in it he will be able to tell you if they are Std or if they have been machined undersized so you know which ones to get.

Cheers, Bob.

First question.

who is doing the machine work?

there is only ONE machine shop in Oak Harbor worth a shit.

F & S off of Goldie road.

If you need help I can call in some buddies from in the area to help, or I could call Wayne at F&S to take you under his wing. I have a good friend with a chevy 302 in a fiero, im sure he wouldnt mind helping and he is a good engine assembler ( i taught him! LOL ) PM me if you like.

Ok well i was actually taking the block and everything to a guy in anacortes who does alot of good work for my friend. Also i have 3 engine blocks so i dont really mind messing up on one. And bob thanks for all the ebay suggestions, i always look around on ebay but can never seem to find anything. The only time i find anything is if someone finds it for me. would i have to do anything to the head if i used impulse or g200 pistons, somewhere i heard they might not work, dont know if its true or not though. Thanks for all the help guys...

If you got G200 pistons in you block or better still if you got a G200 bottom end, you can use the G180 head on it. It is actually the better option as the G180 head is a bit smaller so it raises compression.

The only thing you would have issue with would be high compression and high lift camshaft but thats the same as any engine. Then you would need valve reliefs in the top of the piston.

The shop that re does your cam should be able to tell you if your getting dangerous lift.
