looking good. what do you have in mind on the back half. crazy set up or keeping it simple. how much did the tubing cost you. I need to get some, but with the price of metal going up I havent gone to check. just woundering.

Mr. Mayhem,... I am extremely jealous of your metal skills!

Your thread has been one of the most fascinating to read, and your pictures are terrific! Image

I can take cars (1969 AMX's) and trucks completely apart down to the shell and put them back together
without any hesitation... but have never once attempted to learn welding - never even held one in my hand. Image

I think it's time for me to buy some more manly equipment and learn!
I'm 47, and this still somewhat young dog needs some new tricks in his resume. Image

Keep up the good work!

Makes me want to try that just to have such a beautiful looking frame. When are you going to offer on-line welding class? :ebiggrin

My biggest problem is I just can't see what I'm welding or the puddle even with my helment set to it's lightest setting. I have a MIG welder and can burn through metal with the greatest of ease! Just need to find someone with a LOT of paitience to physically teach me. But I can say I haven't had any of my welds catastrophically fail yet! They may be ugly, but I do my best to get proper penetration and then a good bead over that. Just would not want my welds to be seen on a chassis like your fabricating. It would be beauty and the beast!

put a spot light right up at the weld. will make life much easier.

I dont know if that will solve all of your problems, but it did mine... I couldnt see squat when the arc was struck. Put a nice huge spot light on the weld (use a piece of safety glas to cover the bulb) and I could see it..... and I have never doubted my welds since then.

Sorry to hi-jack!

I use a tripod stand with two 500 watt lights to help me see what I'm doing when welding. I usually only need to turn one on. Got it pretty cheap ( I think $39) at Home Depot a few years ago during their Christmas time specials. Until then I used the 150 watt clamp on's. The older I get, the stronger the eyeglass prescription, the more light I need. I need to buy a wire feed welder. I'm still brazing with my torch when I need to work with the thin stuff. My sons friends were over last week when I was repairing a fender and wondered what I was doing. It was funny to see them gather around and watch. I don't even think it's taught in schools anymore.

Now back to what brought me here. This is a completely Awesome Build you have going on here. That looks incredible!! Alot of fabricating and hard work. Unbelievable to start from ground zero and build what you have here.

Glad they still teach it. One of the kids who has been through shop class in High school and is in Auto Body school (he just started) had never seen brazing before. My son said they never brazed in shop class either though he has done it in our shop since he was old enough to be out there. Hopefully that's an isolated thing here. I'd hate to see it fall to the wayside, brazing still has it's place. Welding Cast Iron....did they teach you to pre-heat it and then use a needle scaler to ping it (tap it out) during welding or use a hammer?

Sorry Guys, I didn't meant to get off topic. It's just this project has alot of welding in it and it's a helluva nice job.
