i tried searching and couldnt find answer, but i have a v6 chevy with t-5 bell housing, and i was wondering if the stock 4 speed in my 78 would bolt up to that bell housing. im not worried about the transmission holding the power or anything since its just a stock 2.8 to replace the worn 1.8. thanks in advanced.

No the stock trans will not fit also i would use the T-5 as you will get the benefit of the overdrive.this would be a good swap as it would have more torque but not overpowered and get good gas mileage.

T5 is a good idea.

What wheel base is your truck???

You may be able to get a tailshaft out of a 4x4 and have it shortened slightly to work with the T5.
If i am right the output spline on the 4x4 Luv box and the T5 are the same.

Cheers, Bob.

Chase up a T5.

Will be the best money you ever spent because it will just bolt up and fit.

Will work properly with the flywheel and clutch thats on the 2.8L.

I should clarify, by fit i mean fit the engine (and be within spec as far as torque and HP goes)

It wont fit the Luv but neither will the motor. You will have to make engine mounts so make one for the transmission as well will not be much extra work. Even if you could use the Luv box i doubt yo could have the rear of the trans in the same spot as with the 4cyl. Either cenario would probably see a custome length tailshaft being needed.

The placement of the stick shift will probably be different with the T5 but that will not be hard to sort out.

Does the 2.8L T5 use a cable operated clutch??? That would not be too hard.
If it is Hydraulic you sould use the pedal setup from an earlier Luv.

Cheers, Bob.

Sorry for the delay of repling guys. Been working alot and dealing with life. But I think I'm just gonna stick with the factory plant. Got it running last weekend after sitting for 10 plus years. Runs sound, just gotta rebuild the carb. But it's a 2wd short wheel base. But in the good news it made it about two miles down the road and back without pushing it at all. Carb is just gettin fuel to one barrel. And smells strong of bad gas. I'm gonna drop the tank and have it redcoated and rebuild the carb in a week or too. I'll update with my final decision then.
