i have a 1978 luv with the 1.8 and i need to know were i can find a engine block.(the idiot i bought it from though it he would get far with running a motor with no oil) well off course the motor blew so i have a pretty decent hole in the block. what other problems to expect when this happens?

805 is my area code. What you are looking for is a rebuildable core then. You are going to need a crank, rods etc. How about going to pull your part in Santa Paula and getting a G 200 out of a Impaulse, it will be smog legal and a bit more H.P.

He's right. The G 200 comes from the Isuzu Impulse car, and is the same eng. that you have now on the outside. I think they just are a little bigger on the inside. They bolt right in to you Luv, no welding needed.

If you are going to rebuild a engine then the way to go is a G-200 from a Impulse. Like Ron said the engines are identical except for the G-200 is a 2.0 litre vs. the G-180 being a 1.8 litre. It will pass smog legal and it will cost the same to build. The carb, exhaust, alt etc will bolt right on. It wont be hard at all to find one in a wreaking yard.

The blown engine will need a oil pump, rods, crank, timing gears and chain, etc. Just start with a worn out running G-200 and be miles ahead.

if you really have a hole in the block it's probably from a rod but regardless you'd have to get another block so your best option is finding a shortblock or complete used engine. swapping out the old engine for a different one that is complete is the least amount of work.

You can get away with a G-200 engine here in Cal, it's just slightly bigger and the tailpipe emissions will be with in range.

Since I live in your area, let me know if I can help you. I am sure if we went to Pull Your Part in Santa Paula we could find a G-200 long block. You will be reusing your intake and exhaust manifolds, alt, and all smog accesories. It's a straight bolt in, no modifing to the engine, mounts or trans needed. This to me is the best way to get alittle HP and still keep it smog legal in California. The build will cost the same as a G-180.

the 72 is a 1.8 but different and will not work with your motor mounts or trans.
