need more info.......
with what you gave it could be hundreds of possibilities.

what do you mean it wont stay running? does it start then die or not even start?
have you tried a little starting fluid in the carb?
have you checked points? if you got them
have you checked to see if your getting spark? fuel? compression?
be happy to help just need to narrow it down

starts....will run all day long in the driveway, loses power with load.
New Vacuum advance, no noticable change.
New fuel filter, lasted longer on road, eventually, lost power and stalled. Had to put fuel in carb to get to restart.
Old fuel filter had rusty debris. Trying to locate new gas tank. Are the Chevy Luv gas tanks the same for all years?
Is the same gas tank used in any other vehicle?
Thanks

i dont know if the gas tank changed but i wouldnt see why they would until 81 - 82 where the whole body changed.
is it the stock engine?
what year?
where are you located?
so far it sounds to me like fuel pump is losing pressure for some reason.
it dont happen often but i have seen them run for a while then got too hot and quit till they cool back down.
i cant remember do you have electric or mechanical fuel pump?
unless the inside of your fuel tank is completely rusted out you should be able to pull the tank down and clean it out and that should also help some.

hope this helps

1979 2wd...stock engine....I'm in Florida....If I cant find a new tank, I was planning on dropping and having cleaned. After clean tank, then I think I'll be more able to diagnose pump. Haven't found a new tank online yet. Help!!!

sounds like a problem i had with mine. check the fuses and fuse panel. you might have a loose connection or terminals might be rusty. i did everything you were and even changed the pump and still had the problem. mine would die going down the road at about 35-40 mph after my grandpa told me to check the fuses i did and thats what the problem was. dont know if it will help but its free and easy to try

You can get a new electric pump for the 84-87 Troopers and they are pretty much the same as the LUV one.

Just check E-Bay
