Manual trans in owners manual shows 2.7 pints or around 1.3 quart use SAE-80W-90

Tranfer case 5.2 pints or 2.5 quarts and use SAE-10W-30

Rear Axel 2.7 pints or 1.3 quarts and SAE-90

The oil weights are for my temps in Oklahoma Weather.

Does this sound right on the measurements.

I don't think that's right for the Tranny lubricant. My shop manual for my '79 shows engine oil for transmission lube. I use 5W-30 for the normal operating range here in MT.

The differentials and the steering gear box get the heavy 90W gear oils but the transmission and transfer case use engine oil. I know it sounds off the norm from other trucks. If you are running 90W in your transmission you might want to change it.

I'm trying to get off the transmission drain fill bolts now..No luck yet. Where is the fill on the transfer case.

If I fill at the shifter do I just take off the 2 12mm bolts that cover the shifter then pour in around the shifter ball, do I take the shifter out?

I finally got the fill bolt off and the drain, it took 2 quarts until the oil started running out the fill hole. I had to take off the skid plate that protects my 4x4 drive shaft and then use a cheater bar since I could not find my 3/4 drive ratchet. I'm taking it out for a test drive...

Before I could do a test drive I looked in the mirror and I looked like bowzer from sha na na. My hair was coated with 10W-30...

Anyway it's up and running fine and shifting good, I poured my oil in the 80W-90 bottle and added about a half cup of STP engine treatment then filled the transmission.

+1 on the motor oil in the tranny. My 77 calls for it too. I run 5W-30 too.
