Could anyone give me a good reason as to why these pistons wouldnt work in my truck, if i were to bore the block a tiny bit.

Piston pin diameter and pin height, also, top of piston from pin distance. If they are the same, they would work...

according to the site the pin diameter is the same, i guess everything else i would have to figure out if i get them. Then if they dont work ill just send them back. But thanks...

On shaving the head, I've been thinking about it too and one thing I can say is however much you take off make sure your timing chain tensioner can take up the slack. I know nothing about valvetrain interference with these motors when you shave the head.

If your engine is the 2nd generation 1.8 liter (Bore=3.31") you would have to bore your block more than 0.100" to use the 1.9 liter pistons. Thats a lot. My Series 9 factory shop manual says to replace the block if the bore is larger than 0.040" oversize. This indicates that the cylinder walls are not very thick.

If you bore to 0.100" oversize, you will significantly weaken the cylinder walls or possibly bore into the water jackets. If you must use the 1.8 L block, you might be able to sleeve it. Talk to a GOOD automotive machine shop about whether it can be done and the cost.

The pistons you referenced apear to be flat topped. The 1.8 L pistons are dished. I don't know if the 1.9 L pistons would cause piston/valve interference. Check this before you spend big bucks on pistons or machining.

I think the best, least expensive way to get to 1.9 L is to find a 1.9 L engine, rebuild it and use the 1.8 L head.

wel well.... Oak Harbor huh? lmao are you that white 4X4 on NAS Whidbey?

anyways, I was stationed there a few years ago... I dont know if its still there, but I tossed a whole 79 engine trans in the woods behind a friends house. I could call him and ask if its still there,

man you brought back some memories!

.100 over, that seems like alot yea. Those pistons bore is at 3.445, my shop manual says that i can bore up to 3.521 or something like that. I might just be reading it wrong but im pretty sure thats what it says. Either way i actually am looking for a 1.9 to use with my 1.8 head, and im also looking for a 5 spd and rear end but for some reason those are actually really hard to come by up here.

And no im not the white 4x4 on base. I actually have a blue 76'. But i think i know what truck your talkin about.

Edit - Yea, so i did read all that wrong. i was looking at something else, not how much the block had to be bored. Oh well, thanks for all the help though...
