I like the 20 and 22 r engines. The only problem I see is putting a turbo on a non turbo engine is the fuel management with boost. Not much of a way add fuel with out a sensor for boost, and either mechanical or electronic fuel system to deal with it.

http://www.toysport.com/Technical%20Information/22r_tech_notes.htm

Don't expect it to be a high horsepower engine. Remember high boost reacquires low static compression, non boost compression is usually 8.x

well i found an 86 nissan 200sx with a 2.0 and 5 speed

its mass air flow controlled so thats easy when it comes to boost. for fuel pressure managment i have a rising rate regulator that i used in a saab that was running about 28 punds of boost.

nothing that crazy probably no more than 7-10psi is my plan

At the risk of truly sounds nutz...... or atleast partially crazy,

but a GM 2.5L Iron duke. five speed already behind.

I know i know its impossible to survive past 250 hp bla bla.... little trick for them, swap the crank out (just need those counterweights) . Wa-la 450 Hp Iron duke. turbo ready, easy to setup for power on the factory TBI..... BTDT.

200sx and 240 sx are nice cars. My kids almost made me get a 240 SX for me... It would have actually been mine.
I did have a 75(?) Toyota Celica GT that looked like a Mustang fastback. I liked that car too.
It had a 20r IIRC .

Ick, the Iron duke :econfused.

I'm somewhat of a Fiero enthusiest; I own one (NOT the Iron duke), and I hate those motors.

Why not just the 2.3 or 2.6 Isuzu?

The stroker is worth the money, trust me. these are night and day difference with a new crank and boost. these engines are very much BOP.... and like to be treated as such - so they take to boost really really well. I have one coming out in a few months will definitly send you pics.

Remember the Iron Duke was a design that was used in early 60's Nova's. It was also used in many inboard boat motors. I am not trying to say it is a great motor for every thing, it may lack in areas that a more modern design may have.

kinda but not really. the modern 151 (2.5) doesnt interchange with the older chevy II 153.... close in relation, but not the same. the Iron duke is actually a Pontiac variant of the chevy 153.

either way you look at it, there known as a shitty motor. plain and simple. they leak and make poor power. But you swap that crank out add a turbo and everything changes.

How about a Mitsubishi turbo from a Eclipse with a Mitsu 5 speed from their Mighty Max?

Just for your info the 2.5 was a fair motor that would work in our lighter trucks but the one that i would like to get is the 181 (3.0) Marine /Hyster motor in most marine applications the motor was rated at 140 horse but there were 160 horse models to and you just go from there. Also this motor looks just like the 2.5.

Just wanted to add a couple of comments here, the Toyota 20R and the 22R emgines are great turbo candidates. A stock 22R will put out about 85 horsepower, but with just 7 pounds of boost they will top 175 HP! One of the problems of turboing one is their weakly designed pistons, one pre-detonation and the top ring groove disintegrates! However forged pistons are available and fix this problem
As far as the "Iron Duke" engines? The one good thing about them is they share their bellhousings with every other Chevy v8 built! Except maybe the 348-409s. So any Chevy tranny can be used behind one, automatic or stick. You're right about the early version and the later ones. The early version Chevy 11 engines were also used for many years in the Mercury Inboard boats, they were rated at 140 HP.
The later versions were used in all GM itermediates, also for 3 years in Jeep CJs, so there are a lot of them around. Neither engine likes high RPMs, so keep them below 5K and you should be ok.

348 - 409 - 427 engine line used the same bellhousing pattern as all of the small blocks.

Turbo's really should have forged pistons. They tend to detonate more. Also an knock sensor. Also less timing and better fuel.

since that is the first style of LUV you should make sure you do all of the other important upgrades such as front disk breaks and master cylinder stuff, not to mention the suspention, if you plan on making one of these trucks go fast your gonna wanna make the other parts be able to handle it... and i quote "the drive train is only as strong as it's weakest part..."
