Last night I picked up a 84 pup std cab longbed off a guy here in Portland. I have been looking for a project truck to do body work on (shave everything) and then bag the heck out of, set in primer and buy some 18's or what ever the largest wheel diameter I can get but still lay frame....

Anyway, most of the trucks I have been looking at have long since died awhile back, which I thought was fine. All the engines were either missing or not running for some unknown reason.
Well I stumbled across this one and it is in real good shape. It was towed behind a motorhome most of its life. The od reads 170k but the engine is blingin new, hardly even touched, The ting actually runs and starts right up.. I'm so freakin happy right now I cant even tell ya.... anyways, the bad part of it (no big deal to me) is that the truck was allowed to roll into the motor home at some point and pushed the front bumper, grill, both fenders and the hood in a bit. The dash is also seen MUCH better days, its all cracked up. The windshield is pockmarked with impact marks from pebles and sand, it looks as though the windshield needs to be cleaned but its actually the damage done by the rocks that impairs the view.
So I'm off to get replacement fenders, hood grill and hopefully a cheap dash thats complete from a wrecking yard or where ever else?
I just wanted to say that I joined the family and look forward to spending more time on here as I'm sure I'll have tons of q's

If you dont mind me asking, how much did you pay for it. Changing glass and body panels is a breeze compared to refreshing a worn-out motor. Thats the big thing right there! For the dash you can get a dash cap for it and it will look sweet. It sounds like you have a good base for what you're wanting to build. Good luck with your project.

guy wanted 400 - I waved $250 in green in front of him and he folded...

I stole it from him really but that is ok.

as far as the dash is concerned its like the light switch and various other pieces are literally broken out of the dash...the plastic is broken. Alot of plastic is broken so I think a trip to the salvage yard is in order. I may try and find a newer dash (88+) and stuff that in there...anyone have any experience with that...ie how much cutting are we talking about? I know its a rather easy task for the datsuns to do but how is it on the luvs?
