When I take off the door panel there is an odd black tar, which I'm guessing was for weather proofing purposes, and when it gets on you, it is impossible not to spread it on the window on the seat on your clothes, anything and everything.

How the heck would I remove that? I'd like to get inside the window to see how to fix it, as I can no longer roll it down, the knob just spins for ever after I attempted to take it off a few years ago and didn't realize there was a pin behind it, and twisted it the counter clockwise and snapped it. I'm guessing I'll have to get some new part to fix that, but that's a different story. :-(

Thanks guys

Usually there is a bead of that black goo that holds a plastic sheet "moisture barrier" in place.
Seals the edge of the sheet around the holes in the door for accessing window regulators, etc under the inner trim panels/cards.
Yea, that stuff is ... :o ...gets on everything.
See if you can get ahold of some Prepsol from a painter bud to get it off you.
On trim try it on a hidden piece first to make sure it doesn't also remove the color. :?
Paint thinner will work, too but same disclaimer if you try using it on the insides of yer truck.
Heck, gas will break it down to get it off you.
On yer clothes try scrubbing with Gojo type cleaner before washing.

If the plastic is gone from under the door panel it's been opened up before.
Big surprise on our old rides.
Try to remove all of the sticky, gooey residue with a thinner soaked rag while the trim panel is off.

At the dealerships I've worked at most cars get those plastic bag throwawayable seat cover thingys immediately upon hitting the service drive.
You may not be taking yer Luv to Chevrolet
Having done a bunch of TSB replacements on 98 Caravan/Voyager door lock solenoids I can understand yer situation.

Man that black gunk sucks bad! What sucks worse is when you reach up in there and get it all over your arm hairs and then try to get it off! Too bad there isn't a warning label on that moisture sheet saying to watch out for the crap!

Just tried tackling this again. Stuff is vile. I managed to rig my window to roll down, by taking out the bolts holding the window assembly to the door. It works for now! Now I don't have to roast in the truck, but I have to put the bolts back in every time I want to "roll up" the window.

Anybody have a spare assembly lying around? With a crank that works? I'm willing to pay for shipping and whatever costs you guys want. Don't need the window.

Thanks!
