my blinkers still work if my ignition is off and the key is out?
P.S. it did it with the old ignition and the new one i just bought

Not sure what year you have but my '72 does it as well. Simplicity is the answer. Less circuitry to have everything fused and just assume you'll turn it off to not waste the battery.

so as long as they are not running when the engine is off it will close the circut and not drain my battery?

honestly I thought all vehicles did this just because I've only owned luvs. But I think part of it is because the blinkers are obviously tied in with the hazard lights, which are required to be able to function without the key, because of breaking down on the side of the road and such. Basically, it does boil down to simplicity
