hey everyone im new here and i get a question. my luv truck is an 80. im having problems getting it to run. it will strat up and run but u must keep strating it. as soon as you let off the from starting it it will die. im alittle lost and was wondering if yall can help me.

These trucks have a bypass to give the coil 12 volts when cranking then when the key is let off the relay kicks in and runs power through the ballest resistor. You will need a VOM or test light and see if power is getting to in side of the ballest, if so a bad ballest, if not a relay problem or possible ignition switch. Get a manual, follow the elect schemo.

Yup, With a volt meter measure both connections at the balast resister with the key on. Should be 12V on one, and 7-12V on the other depending if the points are open or closed at the time.
Bad balast is a good guess.

Is your choke stuck?

Mine did the same thing today. I have a weber. My power selenoid was not opening, but have not looked at the cause yet, if it was no power or just went bad.
