i found a g200 engine i think, in a 81 luv at the scrap yard.... the head for sure says g200 on the front of it. the distributor is on the front of the engine on pass side and has a long shaft on it. is there any reason that i should be looking to go get this out of this truck before it gets crushed? i have a 79 4x4 1.8. would this be a decent upgrade or is there anyone here that would need any of these parts for theirs. the truck seems to be mostly in tact. pm me if you need parts from it and ill go back and check. thanks

If you will be needing a new eng. soon, then I would rebuild a G200 instead of the G180. If it has electronic distributor, I would grab that off of it.

See how much they want for it. It may or may not be worth it.

i could get the engine for around 200 dollars complete. and i took the elec. distributor out of it but it has the long rod on it. i dont think its the same as my 1.8 but this is the first 1.8 luv i have ever owned and dont know much about the 1.8. from the research ive done i thought the 1.8 was a short distributor. all my other luvs have had engine swaps done. thanks for all the info and help. this is a great site.

If your 1.8 has the intake and exhaust manifolds on opposite sides of the eng., this dist. will work. The 1.8s that have the manifolds on the same side are a very different 1.8. Luvs had them from 72-75.

The 1.9 G200 I swapped into my '78 LUV years ago was a used engine from Japan, fuel injected, auto trans. I swapped on the 1.8 G180 intake & exhaust manifolds, distributor, oil pan, flex plate & flywheel, alternator & bracket- all fit perfectly, should fit into your '79 similarly. Had a small but noticable power gain. I didn't know at the time about raising the compression by installing the 1.8 head onto the 1.9 block or I probably would have done that too.
