i am thinking of upgrading my entire drive train from motor to axles. heres what i want. i want a decent sized v6 that has a 4wd trannt availible for, i want toyota solid axles. i know some come with 4.11 and that is what i want. ok on the v6 i want at least a 2.8 to about a 3.8-4.0 the tranny must be manual and the tcase must dump on the passenger side since thats the side toyotas dump on. i would like some what low gears in the tranny and a low 4lo. i have already said about the axles. ok where can i get an engine something to what i want with a tranny on it or one that would be easy to find. oh ya the engine has to be some what old cause i don't want fuel injection cause i have no i dea how to do the electrical for something like that. and would n e axle shop be able to get me these toyota axles or would i have to go to a toyota dealer. i would need all the suspension to go along with this. and as the axles could i get this at n e suspension shop or order it or just try to find it in a wrecking yard? i only have the summer to do this so i need to start soon. one last thing what do u think i might spend for all of this cause i will have some money but not alot. i will have around 4,000 i might be able to get another 1,000 or so but i am not sure on that. so if u can help me i would greatly appreciate it. matt

If you do the work yourself, $4000 will easily cover what you want to do. You could probably find a good Isuzu motor and 4x4 5 speed transaxle at a junkyard for around $1500 complete. Toyota front axles run around $150-300 used (hub to hub with springs and rotors). As far as the motor, the 2.8L Isuzu is known to be a bit of a dog stock, but with the other $2000 you'll have, you could build a hell of an engine (cam, header, intake, and a lot of other stuff from an on-line store that I know of), and still have enough left over for Sway-Away torsion bars, rear lift stuff, and possibly a rear locker. I could do wonders with $4000...

for the v6 id say go with a gm 3.4, 4.3 or a buick 3.8. the buick can be wobbly though

if you felt like more of a project, you could pick up a toyota 7MGE out of a '86-88 supra and cram it in there(it's a straight 6). those things pump out 300hp easily

i'd have to say go with a toyota transfer case. ott industries makes an adaptor so you can run it devorced from the tranny. http://www.ottindustries.com/divorcetoyota.htm

a breakdown of parts costs that i'd imagine:

toyota front axle: $200
toyota rear axle: $150
toyota t-case: $100
t-case adaptor: $300
engine: $1000(rough estimate)
