Well, I decided to fix the 80' motor to run, instead of swapping motors with the 78'. It's better to have one running than to have none. I have found that the timing chain is set incorrectly, the different color link is WAY off! The cam marks seem to be correct, the only thing I can see is the #4 valves are loose instead of tight, to bring the #4 to firing position. Tomorrow I'll try and get the front cover off to look at the crank shaft marks. The crankshaft key way is facing UP. Is this correct? Apparently the oil pump was set in wrong along with awhole lot of other stuff when the motor was put together. Basically I would like to know the way you would set the timing marks for the motor while assembling the motor.

One more question...... My heater in the 78' blows HOT air but the CAB WILL NOT GET WARM! I have to dress warm to get to work. And yes I have carpet and that is it. The windows are sealed good, is it the uninsulated factor of the roof, doors, and rear cab? Have the original head liner though.

Thanks to the people who started this site and the people who participate with thier .02 cents worth. A BIG THANK YOU!!!

Incorrectly? Sounds like the cam timing is fine. In the number four firing position both valves should be loose. Also at this time the timing mark on the crank pulley should be on zero with the distributor rotor pointing to #4. This says the cam is timed correctly. Pay no attention to the colored link.
Don't remember about the crank keyway but I believe it should be up.
If the cab doesn't warm up you might check the rubber flapper doors "gills" located in the doorpost behind the doors. These are designed to let pressure out of the cab when closing the doors. Maybe one is stuck open or missing?

Thank you for the info. It's too cold in the shop to take off the front cover, to look at the gears, tonight. I'll look at the timing one more time. I'm just trying to figure out the motor so it will start as good as my 78'.

Never thought about those "flappers". I'll look at them at lunch time. On the way to work today, while going 10mph, I did feel air coming through the slots on my sliding rear window, so I to plugged them up with silicone. It kinda is warmer but still it could be warmer. Thank you
