im new to messing with the factory drivetrains in the luv(i usually do all swaps). now that i have my first 4x4. im also thinkn of keepn my 4x2's all stock, with the minor upgrades ive been reading about in some of these threads. there is a pick and pull yard about 2 hours away that i visit a lot. i never thought of getting these kinds of parts ive been reading about(5spd trans, rear ends, elec. dissy's, fans w/cluth, etc.) can someone give me a run down for the years of vehicles i could find these parts on. i have no trouble pulling parts for fellow luvers, but dont want to spend money on the wrong parts from years that will not work. if you could just tell me what parts would come from what year vehicles then i will take the list and spend a day pulling these things. thanks.

Dan, i just wanted to let you know im not trying to step on any toes or take any potential business from you. i am new to this site but not new to the LUV scene. i had my first luv stepside when i was 16 and im 33 now and own 5 stepside luv trucks. from all the reading i have done and my visits to the local and not so local yards there a quite a few of these vehicles mentioned in some of the threads that are just going to get crushed if they set there longer than 90 days. i was just needing/asking to get more of a specific range of years and what parts will interchange with the luv so i can get them before the go to crusher heaven. it doesnt seem like there are very many luvs on the east coast in my area, nor do the ones who own them pursue the passion of upgrading them either.

ok fellas, im headn to junk yard heaven on friday. if you need something that you cant get locally or if there are parts that are hard to find, then please send me a pm or list the items here and i will scout them out. i cant promise nothing but i know that the last time i was there they had 2 luvs, (i do remember the one truck had a perfect set of factory luv hubcaps, all 4) if anyone is interested ill look and see if they are still there. it takes about 2 hours or so to get there so i want to make the trip worth while so let me know what you need or what i need to look for. thanks.

Its cool if you need to know what parts are interchangable I have no problem with you asking in this thread. As far as the transmissions go any isuzu with a 4cyl from 1983-1991 will work with a 1.8. (That year span is just an estimation though I could be off a year or two). The bellhousing pattern on the 4cyl isuzu are just like the small block they all share the same pattern. Just the clutches and imput shafts are different. Even though there is some differences in the clutches and clutch linkage you can still interchange all the 1.8 1.9 2.3 2.6 trans missions together. I can go more in to depth about what clutches will work with what but it would take alot of typing for that. So basically isuzu pickups and troopers with the 2.3 and 2.6 2wd or 4wd 83-91 ish will have the right interchangable transmission.

thanks DAN, that helps out alot. are these donor vehicles that are need for the upgrades plentiful around your area. i have noticed a lot of them here, and had i known the trooper stuff would have worked, i would have never took the 4x4 trooper i had to the crusher 3 months back. i wish i had known of this site earlier. but we all live and learn  anyway, im just here to help out anyone i can so we can all keep the LUV alive. thanks again for the info.

I see the same thing with teh wrecking yards crushing the cars/trucks a lot sooner. I think that's really cool what Dan is doing.

Alot of the junkyards around here in Noth Alabama are converting over to scrap metal and crushing the whole yard. It is terrible  and we do not have any pull-a-part close to where I live.

The junk yard here was closed down for not draining fluids in the vechicles.
There is a 79 4x4 mighty mike there that is great shape and they can't sell it.
It's gona get cut up and sold for scrap.
drivetrain.com sells remaned 5 speeds but not everyone can afford the price.
So count me in for the 5 speed if you go through with it.
