Ok, here's the problem...My clutch pedal mounting plate (Best name I can come up with to describe it) straight up broke in two. The part I'm talking about is the plate of metal that the clutch arm hinge is fixed to. If somehow I could detach the half of the plate still attached to the interior framing I could weld the two parts together...is there another, better way to fix it? Here's some pics maybe they'll help (if the unmarked pics would be better I could upload those too)

thats a tough one cause you cant really "jerry rig" it because you need it to be safe as well. I would clamp it back together with some small spring clamps and try to tack weld it the best I could. After tack welding it then put some JB weld over your and in between tacks. This is all providing you cannot get the plate off and weld it the correct way or just fix it the right way and replace it. Sorry I cant be of more help, anyone else got anything?

Search for clutch pedal bracket and you should find a lot of info on this. It is not an uncommon problem. My old 79 did it to me while I was on vacation and I had to tear it apart in a hotel parking lot to get it welded back together.

If I remember right there are four bolts to the firewall and two at the other end hooking it to the dash. I found it easiest to take out through the hole for the gauge cluster. You also need to remove the brake pedal completely and anything else you can get out of the way. Get the gauges out (3 wingnuts hold it in, two on the left end one on the right plug the speedo cable and wiring harness) and start looking at what you are up against.

I have not seen a good solution to fixing it in place but I suppose if you are creative you might figure something else out. My current 79 project this is on the list of things to fix before it breaks. With a little extra metal and some welding it will last much longer than stock.

I have replaced a couple of these brackets and it take about a hour now but the first time it took two.
Now for the lessons 1 replace the bracket assy. then pull the clutch cable and stand it on end and work out the dirt and crud until it is working free cause it is the cable dragging real bad that causes the bracket to break.

I think that i will fabricate a new bracket. Instead of the bracket coming down from the top which doesn't transfer the force nicely, I am planning on mounting the brackets directly behind the pedal with some jerry-rigged angle irons bolted to the fire-wall. I hope this will work

I've got a 79 parts truck that someone beefed up with an L shaped chunk of steel.
Something like this:
|_____

The short side of the L bolts to the firewall and the long side of the L has a hole that fits over the end of the pivot shaft for the clutch pedal. It isn't really attached to the pedal bracket at all, it just keeps the end of the shaft from moving, therefore keeping the rest of it from moving around. Of course once the bracket is broken tho you still need to get the whole works out and start welding.

I fixed it...for now. What I ended up doing was pulling the hinge apart and welding the part attached to the broken end of the bracket to the original piece with my neighbors little MIG welder, then put the pedal back on the hinge...works for now. Another suggestion my buddy had was to get another piece of 1/8 inch plate and weld it to the broken parts like a bridge, I may do that too if it breaks again. Thanks for all the help, again!
