I was having problems with the old Hitatchi. Now I have put a Weber on. When I first got it on, the truck run as good as it had ever. I also got the exhaust fixed. However. Now I have a terrible backfire in the intake. I am pretty sure I have all the vacuum lines hooked up correctly. Put a fuel regulator in. It seems to be flooding the engine and then when I let it sit idle for a few minutes and stop it, start it, it backfires a couple of times then Idles. When I try to drive it, it spits and sputters and has no horsepower from a dead stop. I had it running enough to reset the timing and I turned the fuel mixture as instructed. Any ideas? I'm hoping I did not blow a ring or something? It does not smoke. Also replaced the dist cap and rotor.

It ran fine the first time I put it on and ran around the block. But now it backfires at start up and I have no power from a dead stop. I am going to check the engine compression and test the spark plugs. Probably take off the valve cover and make sure nothing is stuck or broken. It will start and idle, backfires at start, revs up nicely in nuetral. Seems to build fuel in the intake. The motor does vibrate more than it has ever done before. The timing was way off, but got that adjusted and the exhaust is clear now. I emailed redline to see if there is a jetting recomendation where I live.

Probably is jetting. I live at elev 3100 and will more than likely need it to run at higher elevations when I go camping.

Are you absolutely sure the firing order is correct, 1342? Sounds like two wires are swapped.

I'll double check the firing order.

I got some good info from Weber. They recommended 12-13 and I believe factory is 6 on the timing.

I took the egr off and took it apart, the flange is down at the welding shop to get welded shut so I can elimnated that part.

Egg - You got it I must have got three and four switched when I took all the smog stuff off and put new plugs in. Thanks Learning to be a mechanic, but I seem to miss the obvious a lot.

I'm in a whole new world of Luv driving now. I hope it last. No more backfires, no misses, no stalling, no hesitation, no feathering the pedal..... I can do things now that I would have had to shift down before.

It is so quiet now. I can hear things that need repair
