Just changed out my valve cover gasket and plug, hoping to stem an oil leak that has popped up recently. Got it all back together, but wanted to see what the proper torque settings are for the three valve cover bolts.

Thanks.

I don't have the book in front of me to tell, but it is somewhere on the low end probably in the 15-20 ft/lbs range I think. I've never bothered to torque wrench mine, just got them snugged and then a little extra. The bolt size isn't that large so they can't take much.

I thought it was really low but I didn't think it was that low. The way the bolts snug down through the rubber bushings they are pretty tolerant. Its not like the stock small block chev V8 where if you over tighten them even just a bit the valve cover distorts and leaks worse than if you leave them loose.

1980 is a series 10

i know its a series 10 but the engines go series 1,2,3, and 4 then 1981 looks like series 5 and 1982 is probably series 6on engine series. the books do not have a series 10 or any number higher than engine series 6. so i am needing the valve cover torque settings for a 1980 chevy luv, and am guessing it was stock with what they referred to as engine series 4, unless i am wrong on the engine series. i know the truck model is a series 10

Did not find the torque settings in the Luv info, but 81 Isuzu G180 list the torque as 4ft lbs. So---pick 5 ft lbs and go with it. I would use the high end ( 7ft lbs ) for a cork gasket and use 4ft lbs for a rubber type.
