My Luv is a weekend vehicle and it needs somework work (mainly electrical), registration is due at the end of month, and money is somewhat tight, I'm thinking of going Non-op. Perhaps 4 months down the road I'll have it up and running.
Since I live in the California, what will I have to do to go from PNO back to regular, besides registration and a smog?

I was wondering if I had to pay some type of extra fee when I go from non op to regular reg.
When I first bought the truck, it was out of the DMV system. I had to have it weighed, and then the DMV checked off the VIN. Will I have to have the DMV do some type of check when I go from the non-op to regular?

Sometimes they need to do a lite and vin inspection. You say they did the vin.
When you go back to operational, they should just need the next years reg. fee.

With regards to the reg to non op back to reg situation . if you go non op and then reg the vehicle in 4 months I believe they will make you pay the whole years fees anyway as they do not pro rate the reg fees ,so you would be wasting the non op fee which I think is now $27 so it might cost you more to go non op for a while . if you do , remember part of the fees is a wieght fee which IS pro rated , they never tell you this but it is and it will save you a small amount .If you drop your insurance ,dmv will cancel your tags anyway ,then if you start to use the vehicle you need to send ins proof to dmv . If you got stopped by the law and you showed them your ins ,then they run your vehicle and the dmv shows no ins it could be a hassel. Remember the dmv is not your friend ,I used to handle dmv papers for cars donated to a charity and could talk for weeks about dmv incompetence and outright malevelence. Jim
