I had bought a dizzy coil and ignitor from somone on ebay but the ignitor is bad I cnat get any spark out of it so I was tired of looking and jsut ordered the box hope summit ships fast I want to drive my damn LUV.

Wondering if I can omit alot of the BS factory wires or not.

I don't have one in my Luv, but I have used them before.. What do you need to know? Are you doing this on the stock Luv engine or a V8or V6 engine?

I Installed everything last night. I have it in a stock 78 LUV. So far I have it mounted with the blaster 2. I am curently getting a spark from the coil but am getting nothing from the dizzy to the plug wires. Some of the questions that I have are:

1. Do I still have to use the stock wires that went to the old coil or does this replace all of that. I only used the Keyed 12 volt wire.

2. I have an 82 electric dizzy on it there are red and white I am not sure which one is pos or neg! Haines doesnt say.

3. I picked up plugs for an 82 LUV thats what was refered to me.

4 I assumed that the 82 dizzy was not a magneteic pick up so not using the MSD wires for it.

The connections that I did were as followed.

1. Hooked up the Batery POS and NEG cable wires from MSD Box

2. Hooked up the Orange and Black cables to the coil. Black NEG/ Orange Pos

3. Used the red wire from MSD box connected to the 12 volt ignition and then splice to red wire on dizzy

4 White wire to white wire on dizzzy

Im picking up new dizzy to coil wire on my way home dont like the connection it is getting...

I know its a ramble but if any one has ideas I would apreciate it.

Did everything work before the MSD install? I noticed the electronic distributor you said was in it. Was that done at the same time? I always try to do one thing at a time. It is easier to trouble shoot.

Even though I have been able to skip some steps on troubleshooting some times, it is really better to go from point A to point Z or, Z to A. Skipping around could have you just replacing parts, that cost money.

Are you getting spark at the end of the wire from the coil to distributor wire ? Bad Distributor cap or rotor can cause what you have described. Then you would go on to the electronic parts.

When buying rotors and caps, but good stuff. For my GM HEI stuff I always get the ones with the brass contact parts. They don't actual make contact, just how I describe them.

I don't have any of the stock type stuff in this truck... Maybe you should ask some of this in the stock truck section too. There are a few posts on the electronic distributor swaps on the site...
I see if I can find some.

Depends on what you call ignition systems.

I bought an electric dizzy with the ignitor/modulator online could not get any combination of wire to work got frustrated assumed (yes I know assuming is bad) that the ignitor was bad got frustrated and tried to do the MSD route. I might try to put the points dizzy back in and see if it works. Not sure what to do. I guess the brand new cap I bought could be bad. Just not sure with the MSD 6 system if I have to try and use the factory wires to the old system in to the MSD system I thought the idea of the MSD system was to eliminate the factory ignition problems. Right now I can get spark from the coil distributor wire but nothing past that.

In your step by step, this one seems odd...

3. Used the red wire from MSD box connected to the 12 volt ignition and then splice to red wire on dizzy

You seem to be stating you have spliced the switched voltage to both the box and the coil. If so, this is incorrect. Only the MSD coil wires go to the coil. Nothing else, including the factory wiring.

The switched power source for the 6A box should be checked that it is giving 12 full volts, and not reduced to 6 volts.

I'm not familiar with the color coding of the factory dizzy, hopefully someone can tell you which one is which, and you can verify that you have it wired correctly.

If you have the power wire spliced, you may have to reset the MSD box. Before you ask how, you need to make sure everything else is correct first...

No i miss spoke I guess. I have only the MSD bod to the coil. I used the direction that looked correct for the application the 12 volt from the keyed ignition is supposed to be spliced from box to distributor. Have you used the MSD box with the LUV? I would really like to pick your brain if so. I know it can work someone here said that they have used it I PMED them bit have not gotten a reply. Just want to know if I have to wire stock stuff in to make it work. Thanks for the help.

Sorry, my LUV's aren't stockers. That's why I hadn't replied earlier.
