Besides the VIN on the plate inside the door jamb on the driver's side, are there any other VIN's on th Luv? And, if so, where?

There are a couple more. There is one under the wiper cowl, depending on the year it could be on the left or right side. There is also one on the frame near the front of the gas tank on a cross member.

Looking to put a '75 cab on a '77 4X4 frame. 4X4 doesn't have a title. '75 does. Doesn't seem too illegal.

I think that, properly, you are trying to put a '77 4x4 frame, box, motor in a '75. Just think of it if you had the '75 and the frame rusted in two. You would have to replace it right?

Look up "Ship of Theseus" on Wikipedia. Pertains to if you replace all the parts on the car, is it the same car. But it's something I bet a lot of hotrodders do, like when they make a clone of a Chevelle SS396 from a six cylinder car. It's probably still registered as a six cylinder.

Here in Ca DMV registers the cab as the year. I went to the highway patrol office told them what I did, they inspected it and filled out a form for me to take to DMV, all legal and on record.

That's about where I'm going with it. The 75 is a good truck but has a tired old four banger in it. I have the 4x4 with no motor and I have a rebuilt one point eight that won't work in the 75. So, ditch the four by cab, do lots of nice stuff to the frame (new paint, grease ...) cut out the floorboard around the shift housing and weld that into the 75, put that cab on the 77 and we have us a nice truck with a new motor that just needs paint. Sounds good to me with almost no down time. Hell, I'll give the rest of it away on Craigslist since I already have another 75 parts truck.

I am doing the same thing, swapping an 81 cab (floor and cab mts. rusted away) for a solid cab. There is a vin # on the inside dr.sd. floor under the seat on mine. Hope this helps.

I'm in Texas. I'd probably take you up on the motor if I were heading to California anytime soon. Also, in the interest of full disclosure, I'm still negotiating the purchase of the 4X4 right now. If I get it I may throw my '75 parts truck cab on the frame and just switch the whole floor pan with the 4X since my parts cab is pretty rusted out and the parts truck has a clear title. Hang on to those parts. I'm originally from Lompoc near Santa Barbara and do make visits sometimes. I might come see you for that motor. How many miles does it have and what's the condition?
