my buddie got a box of carbs that someone gave him and in it we found this OLD holly 4 barrel carb. the secondaries open by vacuum like normal. BUT the primary CLOSE when you hit the throttle :?

anyone got an idea what the hell this is? the only thing i can even guess is some kinda decelerator carb for heavy equipment (like a dozer) but all those are diesel right? (no carb)

:?:

Can't think of any reason in the world why you'd want the throttle to open when you release the gas pedal?

Maybe the carb was designed for those engine blowing up contests?

Hey guys looks like a carb. off a mid 70's school bus. engine govener on one side, and something like a speed govener ,, speed control on the other side. But i don't know why the primay closes then throttle is opened ?? Unless the linkage was to work backwards some how for speed control.

it could have been designed for staitionary equipment, that would explain the wide open whith no throtle. Alot of that stuff was gas, thats what the 4.9L ford I-6 was made for.

list number is 3787-6

we have pretty much come to the conclusion its either
A) a plain old 4 barrel holly someone put back together wrong.
or
B) a governed carb for like a u-haul truck.

anyway my buddie is gonna trade it to this other dude for a matching set of flowmaster mufflers (almost new).....poor dumb bastid

well it looks like B) got this email today from Holly

Hello,
That is a model 4150G. It is a governor carb off of a large truck. I
need the List number that is stamped into the front side of the raised
choke tower on top of the carb that holds the choke flap and choke shaft
to identify it completely.
Thanks, Mike

that would be funny for the guy trading the flowmasters. He's gonna slap the carb on and go out and mash the pedal down and brace himself for the car to lay rubber and instead its going to lay over.

Some of the old freightliner trucks had carbs like that on them.Trucking companys that hire people dont want them getting speeding tickets , because it reflects on the company.Havent ya ever wondered why schnieder trucks ...the orange ones that hold up trafic, and swift trucking just to name a couple.... those drivers have the peddel mashed but can only go as fast as the governer well allow them. There are different ways to get around that though. If you get cought YOUR FIRED!!! 55SUCKS

Yah, I used to drive for Schneider. 67 miles per hour downhill with a tailwind. Swift is a whopping 63mph though.

Schneider can kiss my entire ass though. Bad experience.
