I have a Napa brand battery in my Luv. I'm wondering if this is a matience free battery or the type you can take the caps off and add fluid. You can see in the picture there are these little caps that looks like you could remove them with a phillips screwdriver. I just don't want to remove them if they aren't meant to be removed.
Here's a pic:

looks like its punched out for sept. 08 that is usually purchase date. i would just take it back and see if it can be warrantied if that is the expiration date its probably not maintenance free and wouldn't be hurt to open it

All the batteries I have seen that are like yours are still designated maintenance free, even if they can be opened. I have been known to open them if I suspect the electrolyte level is low. Recently my battery was overcharged and I could tell electrolyte came out of it, so I pryed the caps off and added more water to cover the cell plates. If a battery goes dry then it really will fail.

If I remember correctly, battery warranties are tiered, and that anything past the first six months or so you don't get much money back if they fail. I have also found that batteries tend to fail on schedule, that is if it's a 5 year battery it will fail nearly on day 1 of year 6. It's the weirdest thing. I have a battery tender now that I use and my battery is rather old, I'm curious to see if it's lives longer with that.

I saw a Sears ticket in the garage the other day for my F250 batteries. I installed them about 5 years ago. Now that I realize that, I worry every time I fire it up. :D

those caps should screw out and you can add water to each cell. looks like the same style batteries used in caseih combimes.
