I've seen a number of posts talking about the Weber 32/36 and how a lot of folks have converted their Hitachi to a 32/36 DGEV (progressive, Electronic Choke, down draft, etc) carb and for the most part been happy with the conversion.

There's a cheaper kit on the market that uses the 34 DGEC.

See the link for both:
http://www.webercarbsdirect.com/Isuzu_W ... s_s/31.htm

Anybody know the pros/cons to using a 34 over the 32/36 since the 34 is $70 cheaper? The obvious is the 34 has a bigger bore on the primary which I'm guessing would give you better lower end. What else? Does the 34 get considerable worse gas mileage, considerable less top-end?

What makes the 32/36 worth $70 more than the 34 DGEC?

Thanks.

I don't know about the 34 DGEC but I did have a 32/32 DGV (progressive, just a smaller secondary bore) on my 79 for quite a while. I did not really notice any real big difference when I put a 32/36 on it instead.

If you really want a good answer try emailing weber and asking. In my experience they are pretty good with the technical questions, and can even help suggest jetting depending on the details of your engine build over stock. Just browsing around the site I wasn't even able to tell for certain if the 34 DGEC is progressive or what.

Im dont know the difference between them, but I have the 32/36 on my samurai and its a finicky thing. I have messed with it for hours and changed jets and did the whole thing and know it runs pretty good but a lot of work to get it there. Also when it heats up the idle well stick in one spot so it wont idle back down, I think I must have warped the base when I mounted it and the choke is a piece of garbage. I you do get one though make sure you true the base of the carb with a file, they dont always come nice and flat and these carbs hate vaccum leaks. I guess there better then nothing but just......my opinion.

Whatever you do do Not buy the 34/34 weber carb...It only bares a weber sticker and no casting emblem . this is a solex carb cheap knock off owned by weber of north america...beware of this throw away carb... . I did alot of reasearch on this . no links but plenty of phone calls. I love my luv as you do yours and I don't wanna see you get dupped. so if you want more power go with the 38/38/ and if you like the fuel economy go with the 32/36' they will tell you that the 34/34 will give you the best of both worlds but its a pile of crap. peace with much luv .JOeY FROM THE BERG

Thanks for the reply but it's too late. I bought the 34/34 and got it installed. The instructions were terrible if you didn't have some idea what you were doing. The pictures weren't for a LUV nor did it show the carb on the passenger side of the motor. I had a question and got the technical service voicemail and left a message. That was over a week ago and still no return call. I got it from Weber Carbs Direct. They did ship quickly.

I will say that it smoothed out the eratic idle. It idles perfectly now. Something that the old carb hasn't done in years. I did have a problem though that I believe/hope I have resolved with a little timing change and fuel/air ratio tweaking. When you put the motor under a load, like going up a small hill, it would bog down terribly and lurch and cough, etc. It almost seemed better to back off the throttle a little.

I originally timed it @ 6 degrees BTDC w/the distributor vaccum unhooked. I finally left the vaccum hooked up, and played with the timing and air/fuel ratio and it seems to be doing a lot better. If you put a timing light on it though the timing mark is off the scale. The instructions said something about fuel pressure which I'm still considering. The instructions say 3.5psi and I've got 2psi which may mean my fuel pump is not strong enough. I also replaced the fuel filter but that didn't help. It's a work in progress but all in all have been happy with the 34/34. I'm not into the branding and was looking to same some cash of which the 34 was cheaper by $70.

Just curious 'bout the details were you got your 32/36. I looked everywhere and the cheapest I could find was $329. If I had known about your source I might have made another decision.

Thanks.
