Hello,

I got a filthy Weber DGV-5A carburetor from a friend in a bone yard. I am not so concerned with performance, but rather a carb that doesn't hesitate off of idle. The price was right (Free, with intake manifold, and adapter plate) so I grabbed it. I ordered the air filter kit and basic rebuiold kit (The basic does include the accelerator diaphragm).

I have some questions...

My carb now has a fuel inlet and exhaust. This carb only has an inlet. Can I plug the fuel return line and only use the fuel sending line?

I understand this is the same basic carb as the carb that people want to improve performance. The shop I went to said this carb was "junk", but I don't know what to make of that comment. It was mated to a nissan intake manifold complete with adapter..

I really don't care, I just want a carb that won't leave my engine dead if I accelerate wrong and don't pump the gas.

Is there a spec and adjustment sheet for this carb?

Any help is appreciated!

Try this one although there are probably others.

Thank you very much! My carb is really doing me wrong so I am looking forward to getting this one on.

Can I just block off the gas return line fromt he old carburetor and use my stock fuel pump with this carburetor?

I'm afraid I'm not the expert. I am using my stock pump and it seams to be doing ok but I have seen several posts about people having to use regulators. I think the hose can be connected to the filter housing by drilling a hole and installing a hose connector. I don't think mine is hooked up properly yet so I won't say how it's hooked up. Mine is not a street truck so it doesn't get much driving more than a few minutes at a time. I drove it into town (20 mi. +/-) when I put it on and it ran great but that was the only time since the weber. There are a lot of threads about the weber and the hose hook up so it shouldn't take long to find some good info if you have the time to review.

I installed an in line fuel filter that had three ports on it. 1 in and two outs. in is in out is out and the one on the side of the filter I installed the return line. Works good for me. I think it kind of acts like a regulator also.

WOW!!

This carb is really something else.. Instead of giving it gas and waiting patiently for the engine to catch up, this carb has a faster response..

Going up my wretched road home (Steep and full of rocks-slow going all the way) I used to have to put it in 4 low and switch from 1st to 2nd... Now, I put it in 3rd and I can go most of the way in 3rd gear tractoring because of the torque, up the road.

No hesitation off of idle, now i can drive my truck like it was meant to be driven.

I have been grannying it around town, and with a mixed highway/city I am getting 20 MPG-not great. With the old carb I didn't measure like I am driving it now, so I cannot compare it accurately. I haven't taken my time yet to adjust it right, and it seems like some gas is seeping out of a hose, so that might be part of it.

I used a Dodge fuel filter, it has one inlet and two exhausts (Vapor, it says) it is called and it seems to work fine.

The carb istelf was corroded and nasty, I soaked it in vinnegar and all the jets. I bought a rebuild kit and put it in, it was expensive and not too inclusive, but it was enough. The carb cleaned up really well, and I didn't need a lot of carb spray cleaner.

The linkage was more or less stuck, and there was a lot of corrosion in the barrels, but it cleaned up reasonably well for a poor man.

I put the cable holder from the old hitachi junk unit onto the weber so the stock spring worked good. There was some sort of tab on the intake manifold, so I put it in a vice and hammered it at a 90 degree angle, and drilled a hole through the stock hitachi throttle cable holder, and bolted both pieces together. It worked great. If I can I will try to get some pictures so you guys know what I mean.

Aside from the rebuild kit, and the filter, I didn't spend any more money than that. (Carb and adapter were free)

I still get only 200 miles out of a tank of gas before I get to "E", which isn't good, but from what I remember it is actually better than the hitachi. I haven't driven enough on the highway to know for sure what my mpg is there.

All in all the driveability is really worth the penalty, if any, in MPG.

The difference between the stock garbage carb and the Weber is night and day, universes apart. I can putt around in much higher gears now than before, which in my eyes is saving gas (Less rpms).

I also have to add I have a Mallory Voltmaster Mark II ignition coil which is REALLY hot, so that might also contribute to my gain in performance over stock.

I would recommend this carb to anyone.

I am in love with my truck again.
