Just thought I would ask. Occasionally when I turn the ignition key, I get nothing. I can here the fuel pump pumping. But it does not turn the starter on. So I i turn it off then back on, which sometimes works. Sometimes I just hold it in on for about 10 second, then it turns over. It does not sound like the selonoid is clicking. Could this be a bad relay or starter selenoid? I have a new relay in the fuel pump, but I did not replace the other relay . Just thought I would see if others had this problem.

The good news is since I put new plugs, wires, points, condensor, the truck runs good and my carb might have not been the problem. I'm pushing 23 on mpg now.

Could be the switch, a bad ground from engine to chassis, loose starter, loose wire, corroded battery cable, or a failing ballast resistor.

On the battery cable peel back a little insulation right at the positive lug and look for greenish white corrosion. Can be washed away temporarily by wire brushing and then flush with WD40, careful of your eyes!

All grounds should be clean, bare metal. Should be a ground from engine block to chassis frame or firewall

If engine sometimes won't start until you let key go from cranking position to run position that indicates bad ballast resistor.

I have not had time to look at it, but I think it has something to do with the way my tape player is wired in, because when it happens I turn the power off on the stereo and it starts. And when I think back, it started after I put this tape player in.

I had the same problem. It turned out to be a corroded battery cable. The corrosion was inside the cable underneath to outer covering where you couldn't see it. There was enough left for the fuel pump etc to work but not the starter.
