Hello,

So I was driving along and I found that my temperature gauge was reading almost all the way hot. So I pulled over and shut the motor off. I jiggled the connection at the intake manifold and it seemed to be OK.

So, I try to start the motor again and it would start up for maybe one revolution then immediately die. I jiggle all the connectors I could see and try it again and it starts up fine, so I resume driving.

Anyway, about 1/4 mile down the line, the engine shuts completely off, my temp gauge reads 100% hot, and my oil light comes on (My oil sensor is not hooked up).

I know what this is!

This morning I hosed down some battery acid leaking everywhere. (I adjusted my regulator to 14.8volts @ 2,500 rpm, but ti seems to want to put out over 15 at idle. When I give it gas it goes back to 14, and when there is a draw on the battery it puts out a reasonable amount. This is why my battery is spilling out acid all over the place. It is confounding me.)

Turns out the connector where the ignition wire, the oil sensor wire, and the temp wire (And one other wire I forget which) all go together.. The battery acid has been gooing up things in that connector. I used a knife and some water I had and I cleaned out the connector, that fixed it. My temp gauge is now reading a little less hot than it did before, and I can imagine my ignition might be working a little better now, too. However, my extreme hesitation problem is still ever present.

The Hitachi accelerator pump in my carburetor consisted of a brass piston on a steel rod moving in the carb's aluminum casting to pump fuel. About as technologically advanced as a tire pump in 1905, except for one difference. 1905 tire pumps had a leather on the piston to seal against pump chamber, Hitachis ddn't get that part.

You might want to check the fit of pump plunger in pump chamber and see how sloppy it is. It's possible to run a sharp knife blade around exterior of brass plunger in ring shapes to raise metal by displacement for a better seal. Don't know how long it would last but there's lots of metal there for next time.
