just inherited a beautiful, stock '75 luv from the wife's grandparents. they live in arizona in an area where there's no smog testing. it's new home will be here in santa barbara, ca where we have only the basic testing, not the "enhanced" testing like the rest of socal. in any event, since it's a '75, i _think_ it is exempt anyway. anyone know for sure?

I could be wrong, but I think you may have to smog it once to switch the title, then your home free.

That was an old law, as of now you dont need to smog it for a transfer for 75 and older.

Grandmaster of the "Shade Tree" way.. I can't see the yard for all the cars. Come on down and we will sit on the porch and watch the grass grow.

This state is indeed a vacuum.

My 79 which doesn't have a cat or the air pump needs to be smogged. I think I'll keep it under Nevada registration just as long as I can.

When I had my smog certification I was told they have "spot test" or roadside checks but I have never seen it.

back when i lived in carlsbad, i was dating a girl in fontana. i had, [still have] a very illegal 5.0 mustang and there was, big as life, a mobile random testing trailer being run by the cops. they had some poor bastard in a stock camry on the rollers when i rumbled by. it shook me up because i was sure i was "next". it never happened, and i haven't seen one since. that was '96-'97'ish era.

I have seen them, a but it's been a few years now. They would be set up on wide on ramps for a freeway.

My mom got nailed by one in her 1960 V8 falcon. They didn't put the V8 in until 63. My step dad adjusted the carb, that fixed it. He did the swap because he didn't think 6 cyl had enough get up and go to get on the freeways. She was living in Hunting Beach. It was 1975 or so then. I just couldn't believe they stopped you on the street. I hadn't lived there since 1964.

They had it in the 70's when I was a kid and then stop until about 5 or so years ago. Now they do it again but very few of them from what I've seen.

Yep, they still setup the onramp testing vans from time to time. Just saw one a couple weeks ago in Upland.
