Was the step side bed ever a factory option. I know there was a company in Cali that made them and sold them to dealer ships for chevy, ford, datsun and toyota. Were all of the fenders fiber glass?

well im not positive but i have seen alot and one of my buddys said that they rolled off the show room floor like that so i would supose they were factory even if factory didnt make em cause mine had same decals and stuff on em...

ok, not factory but dealer option... here in the late 70's i could go to the dealer and i would say about 4 out of every 10 where step sides ... here is what some of the step sides looked like from the dealers, these have some of the options on them like strips and wheels ... option ZV6 was the step side bed

I have a 1979 from Cali thrid owner that has fiberglass fenders, and have a 1980 2nd owner that was bought in Tx with metal fenders. Just trying to get general information

The full size trucks had metal fenders. The only LUV metal fenders I have seen were adapted to the bed due to lack of fiberglass replacements. There could have been a bed offered with that option though....

do you have a picture of the one from TX? there where 2 other step side bed companies that joined late in the game but didn’t last long, one from TX and one from FL. they used metal fenders from older ford and chevy back then. I would have to do some looking to find the info but a pic of yours and i should be able to tel. also need picture of tailgate open,. that will help to see if it was from TX or FL , made a little different. And if yours is not a home made one it will be the first I have seen from one of these companies…
