I am doing a disk brake upgrade on my LUV. I have gotten Front rotors and calipers from a 2000 Silverado. I will be using them on the rear of the LUV. The rotors are 12" and the calipers are HUGE.

Just for reference , the wrench in the picture is a 1/2" craftsman wrench. I bought these calipers from ebay for $19.99 each with $13.00 shipping each. They are twin piston.

The rotors were purchased from Advanced Auto parts
http://www.partsamerica.com/productdetail.aspx?MfrCode=RAY&MfrPartNumber=56825RGS&PartType=221&PTSet=A

What I am thinking is that if the rotor sit deep enough on the front hub then I could make a bracket to fit them on the front. I am going to test my theory this weekend hopefully and I will provide pictures if anybody wants them.

But some ideas for a good (read BIGGER) master cylinder would be welcome.

You better make sure you use a aftermarket master cylinder. The fluid pressure is completly diffrent.

Have you looked at teh wildwood ones? I had a guy at the local speedshop tell me that the (4) bolt pattern the luv uses might be compatable with the other chevy's? I have no Idea but it might just work.

I thought about looking at the same 2000 Silverado 1500 for a master cylinder and booster. I think I can get one used for about $25-$30.

napa number 39178, The Carquest number I have is: BPR20-1860. Right around $25 with a core charge.

These are PN's for a Chrysler minivan master that is an aluminum body. The Strange and Willwood styles are copies of this. Most racers I know end up switching to these from the big names as they get more pedal pressure...

The part #'s I gave are being used on 4 disc cars. Most of them are Strange and Aerospace set ups.

So there should be enough pressure to run 4 wheel disk brakes (like the ones I am putting on the back - 2000 Silverado Front disk brakes, all the way around).

One of the cars has the big fronts and dual caliper rears, so it should be enough....

That sound s like it will cover it and then some <whiplash maybe>. thanks for all the info. Looks like I may have a nice brake upgrade for cheaper than I thought. I will take pictures and do a write up on it if enough people are interested.

Hey, what would be the advantage of putting rear discs on a LUV? The drums'll lock up the tires right nicely (in my experience...) I can't see there being enough weight to stick the tires to the road enough for discs to be an improvement. Maybe you guys out there with V-8's and weight in the back...
(I'm) Almost looking to be proved wrong, I guess.

Mine is a V8 conversion but still no weight in the bed. The reason I did the conversion is b/c I am running an S10 rearend with moser axles. The only rotors that match the wheel bolt pattern is a full size chevy truck and it was easier to change to a disk brake setup using factory parts.

on a 4 X4 it might out better so that the brakes do not get filled up with mud / dirt , etc. Just a thought

Besides 12" rotors with twin piston calipers just look cool

Does anyone know what the bore size is for the stock brake booster on the LUV?

Gonna have to put some lead billets there in the bed! I'l admit, discs would survive dirt and sand much better than drums... Definitely sharp... 8)
