I got really inspired from everyone on this website. I bought a 1979 LUV from a junkyard for $400.00 last fall but I didnt start on it until about Feb. Currently there is a 327 SBC, TH350 trans and a 2000 S10 rearend with moser axles and a posi I need to get installed. There are coilovers up front and three inch blocks in the back. The truck already had a pair of SAAB E4 buckets seats and alot of messy wiring in the cab (there was 7 extra cigeratte lighter power ports, a small fan, a bunch of antenna cables and a Sear & Roebuck radio). I have a set of VDO gauges and Caddy Tailights that will going in next. I just wanted to share the progress and say thank you to all who post questions and answers here and help keep the LUVs rolling.

Noticed a Fram oil filter in the pics. Lately they have been causing low oil pressure issues. If you notice this, swap that filter out with a good filter such as Wix or a Carquest (made by Wix), before you do anything else...

Actually the cars belong to the owner of the shop. The convertible is a 1964 Pontiac Tempest convertible, and 1956 Nomad and behind that is a 1968 Camaro convertible. He is a big car nut, all of cars he restored himself. He is letting me use the shop in exchange for helping do the body work on the tempest and whatever other projects come up. It is kind of a funny story because he is my Insurance agent , we both go to the same church, and we both grew up in the same town in Louisana and now live in alabama.

With the oil filter, it will be changed before the truck is run, it did not survive the engine install very well. (I did not have enough of the radiator support cut out so it keep hanging up).

I am debating on the tilt front end idea also. I am just am not sure how to do the inner fender wells yet.

Nice! Looks like you might be able to save that dash with a cap...

I put 435,000 miles on Saab seats just like those, so you might consider keeping them. Changing out the covers to another color (new leather is available) is about a 20 minute job per seat.

Hey nukeday are you talking about seat covers or covers that require the old seat cloth to be removed? The padding is good in the seats but I that would be cool if I could get the covers. Any idea whee I could get them?

You can replace the cloth on the Saab seats with this, but it's not cheap:

http://www.saabstuff.com/seatcovers.html (scroll down for colors, your seats look to be the pre-93 style)

They come up on ebay fairly often, and once you look at how easily they come off you might find another color in a junkyard that you like. There is a buckskin, red, and blue cloth. I've also seen a dark brown cloth, but only once. Used leather is usually not worth the effort, but you might get lucky and find a decent set. Look for 4 doors, they are usually driven a bit less hard than the coupes. I don't think the covers from a convertible will work, but they might. I think the seat back is different to accomodate the seat belt...

The seats themselves do hold up well. Spring kits are available for the bottoms, if you've got any wires that are broken. http://www.eeuroparts.com/productdetail ... &code=5638.

The big tilt knob on the side gives very fine adjustment, and if you look closely at the front rails, you can mount them so that the front can be raised and lowered too.

If you decide to use them, let me know. I can probably help you sort out what year they are from in case you want to hook up/repair the seat heaters. :D

On another note, it looks like you've got the Mikado 3 spoke steering wheel in the truck. I think the standard models had a two spoke/straight across style...

WOW nukeday thank you for all the great info on the seats, I was going to have a shop recover but if they are that easy I will look at doing it myself. I may have to look into the seat heaters, They have all the wiring there.

On the seats there is a tag that reads E4 would that be the car model the seat came from?

The steering wheel is a three spoke but it has a chevy symbol in the center, it has AC, what else may make it a mikado?

I've never really paid attention to the tags on the seats. From your photo, though, those are definately first gen seats. There is a small possibility that they came out of a 9000, but I highly doubt it. They came in Saab 900's (both 2 and 4 doors, and the 5 door hatch) from 79-93. '93 was a change over year, and only the 'vert kept the early body style. Again, I'm not sure if those seats would work for your application. You may come across a Saab 99 (it's a model, not a year), and the seats will look similar, but they aren't the same. They usually have a sort of crosswork piping on them, and generally look a bit cooler than the standard 900 seat.

The buckskin/tan I was talking about was available from '85-'89 I think. The later years went to a bit more of a yellow color, but they would probably still sort of match your door panels.

One thing I will definately attest to is the durability of the cloth fabric. If you keep them clean, and keep from tearing the vinyl, they will outlast pretty much any car you put them in. I hope you keep them, but I looked at doing this, and wasn't happy with the seat angle in the Luv. I'm just under 6', if you are shorter, you could probably make them work just fine.

There are several other mini-trucks that you can snag a bench from that will just about drop in, and ctmandu has a set of Recaro's in his truck. I think Astro van buckets, Geo Metro buckets have been used too. It's your truck, so you decide, but seats are a pretty big issue if you plan on spending much time driving it.

Don't mean to hijack your thread, your truck is coming along very nicely, should be a sweet ride when you've got it together. I need a bit of impetus to pick back up on mine, if you use these seats, I may just look at putting a set in my truck. They are really comfortable and durable.

You are not hijacking the thread. You have provided me some good info. They do not look like they are the same year seats, one has slightly diffrent stitching. I may try to take some better pictures of the seats to see if they can be ID'd correctly and I can keep them. I do not know how comfortable they are, the truck has never been driven since I bought it last year.

A Mikado would have had cloth and carpet door panels that match the floor carpet. And vinyl kick panel covers in front of the door panels, Mikado emblem on the sides of the bed, and some other stuff too.

It would also have a Mikado emblem on the glove box door. I think your truck is not a Mikado. Someone just put a Mikado steering wheel on it at some time long ago.

I really do not know the specs except that they were installed on a '55 nomad before I got them. The best thing I can say is for installation is to unbolt the lower A arm completely and be patient. I think there is a real good post about installing coilovers.

Here it is http://forums.luvtruck.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=16951&hilit=coilovers
