I know this is not exactly legal but the title to my luv is lost and i'm having no luck geting one for it.I'm in the process of getting a bonded title for it but if that don't work does anyone have a junked 4x4 with a clean title that they would sell me.I'm thinkin if I just swap the vins if i could just get a good title.

There is a lot more to it than just swapping the vin tags. Luvs I believe also have it stamped on the firewall of the cab and on the frame cross member, etc. It would be more feasible (and legal) IMHO for you to just find another truck body to swap all of your running gear into if you find you can't clear your title issues up.

You are asking someone IMHO to stick their neck way out, and get involved in something that could undoubtably come back to haunt them with some obviously very unpleasant legal results.

That being said, if anyone wants to help this guy, it would be better to discuss it via email rather than in public.

In Texas all you have to do is apply for a lost title. If you already owned it. I think the bonded title would be good. I guess it is from one of those companies that do that kind of stuff. The previous owner should be able to apply for a lost title. Even with a death of the owner, title will follow to the heir. You just need to check it out.

I bought a car from a person who buys them at police auctions. All it took was the Police impound paperwork , the auction and where they sold it to me. It sounds complacited but it really was not too bad, as long as you have all the paperwork and it all signed.

here in WA you just go to the DMV pay $36 and they contact the last registered owner. If they dont recall it being stolen and the plate numbers arent on any police blotters they send you a new title.
Only time i would sugest you swap ID plates is when you have titles from both rigs, so if something comes up you can prove you own both. Becouse as said above the VIN is stamped on under the cowl and on the frame.
