I believe the only ratio for 4x4's is 4:10. And the 4x4 gear set is heavier duty than the 2wd as I just found out when swapping my worn third member out of my 1980 4x4. I would check wrecking yards + ebay and craig's list.

Welocome and congrats on your truck!

If you go to http://car-part.com/ that is probably your best bet for finding a used one. Finding parts is going to be tough, and most of the time when you tear one down that's FUBAR'ed, you open up a real can of worms. But you can still find a few decent used 4X4 rear ends out there.

Good luck and happy hunting!

So far, all I've heard is that 4x4 Luvs came with 4.10's.

Mine is a 1980 Luv 4x4. I am positive the front gears were only available with 4:10's. Making it obvious to only be able to use 4:10's in the rear end.... If any body knows of a higher front end ratio, I'd buy them in a heartbeat.

That is the normal ratio for a manual trans with a 1 ton (1000kgs) rating.

I know later on they used 4.1 in the 500kg rated pups, not sure if you could get the Luv in different weight ratings. Perhaps you could in the US with the Makido etc up spec models that were offered.

I had an 86 pup here that had fighting diffs in it. It was an LS model 500kg rated. I assume 4.1 in the front and someone has replaced the rear diff with a 4.555 as it had the same sized tyres on it all round.
