I just recently purchased a 1981 chevy luv for $600. It has 115,000 original miles and needs a little TLC. I know nothing of about this truck but that I am addicted to it. I do have a problem though. When I am driving about 30mph there is a rattling that sounds like it is coming from the passenger side front tire. Does anybody have any suggestions about what it might be?

When it rattles it also has a shimmy in the steering.

Thanks

If it has hub caps, take it off and look. You might have a couple of lug nuts rolling around loose in there.

Lugs nut can be very bad. If not them. Jack up the front end and put it up on some jack stands. Then shake and wiggle everything. Steering parts, wheels, fenders what ever you can. I hope you just find some lugs loose. It could be bad wheel bearings. Let us know what you find. I would not drive it anymore till you check it out. Don't get hurt!!

Grandmaster of the "Shade Tree" way.. I can't see the yard for all the cars. Come on down and we will sit on the porch and watch the grass grow.

I agree. That sounds like something you really ought to investigate quick. Good luck and congrats on your truck!

I used to have a lowered longbed '81. I really loved that old truck. My other half, my kids, and I really had some great times toolin' around in it.
