I put a used weber in my truck a few months ago, and have had all sorts of problems with it. I've been in school most of my time, so I haven't messed with it too much, but I'm somewhat stumped. Basically, my power valve was stuck open, so I could successfully drive the truck up to about 55mph. I got a brand new working power valve for it, but now I can't get it to get more than 1kRPM's. So I checked my jets, and I guess my primary and secondary jets were swapped. So I swaped them back, but still no luck. I'm planning on cleaning it out again this weekend with a few cans of carb cleaner, but I'm curious also about fuel pressure. Does anybody know the recomended PSI rating on a weber? I'm thinking i'll run by AutoZone later today and pick up a pressure regulator and a gague so I can see what I'm pushing.

i found on a page that you shoudl run it at no greater than 5psi, i dont know about your LUV but mine had a 7psi pump in it, and im thinking that the fuel pressure is the reason my weber worked like crap... and aother question (dont mean to jack your thread), the weber i got makes me have to route my throttle linkage under the linkage on the carb, and mount it backwards if i get the right pressure to it is there any reason why this setup wouldnt work? it will have the primary and secondary opposite where they should be sitting this way...

OK, I got the pressure gague hooked up, and its doing between 2 and 2.5 psi. I guess thats normal.

It still seems like the truck is not getting enough fuel though. I can't rev it unless I close the choke, in which case I can rev it, high, then it studders, then goes high again.

I'm going to give the carb a through cleaning this weekend, and make sure I have all the proper jets in place. I'm really hoping I don' tneed to buy a new pump. I'd like to spend that money on other projects for the LUV.

The rebuild did it!

It turns out all the jets and stuff that were supposed to be on the primary, were swaped with the secondary. Plus I let the carb soak in Chem Dip for half an hour. It idles better, and drives faster than it ever has. I got it up to 80 today, probably could have gone to 85, but I don't like speeding too much. What a change, since with the old setup, I didn't have power past 55.

Now Its time for the offy!

the weber i got is a DFAV instead of the DGEV/DFEV/DGV and my throttle linkage is on the opposite side of the carb in reference to the picture, could i just run the carb backwards? would that hurt anything? and if it would be fine, thendo you think a pressure regulator and a rebuild should cure the problem? and one more thing how do you check the jets to know what size they are so i can know what size i need in it?

thanks

I downloaded the file on the main site for weber carb info, and extracted it. There is a PDF file in there with the different carbs. In there it lists what all the jet sizes are supposed to be. There is a 32_36DFEV file, but I don't see a DFAV... possibly they are similar?

If you take your carb apart, it said somewhere on the jets, wether on top, or on the side, what size they were. I don't know enough to say weather or not it will run fine backwards... I'm sure somebody else could answer this question.

Also, the jets I had weren't 100% correct. For example, My carb wanted a 1.65mm primary air corrector jet, and the closest I had was a 1.75mm jet. I just guessed that the closer I got, the better it would run, and I guess I was right because it runs awesome now. (at least by comparason)

Do you have a pressure regulator?

Sorry, I just noticed your post from earlier. My last post I didn't have your earlier post in mind.

I just got a Weber 32/36 DGEV with the conversion kit K662, and a fuel pump pressure regulator yesterday. All these questions people have about the Weber!! I find the recommended fuel pump pressure is 2.5 psi but 3.0 psi is the maximum. The stock pump for the Hitachi carb is 3.5 psi which will cause float bowl overflow, and subsequent problems. I spent the better part of yesterday trying to understand the throttle cable linkage, and finally concluded that a part I had was wrong. I called RedlineWeber in Torrance, California and they said they'd send me a replacement. I hope it fits. Then I went further and found the short black plastic tube that goes into the bottom plate of the air filter would not fit either. I sent an e-mail for that one. I'm looking online for all the information I can on the Weber and it will be on my engine very soon. I plan to take some good photos too. Image

The Weber DFEV is the exact opposite as the DGEV. I just went for the recommended model, and so far, it looks like it's going to be going on just fine. Your DFEV might need some improvisations, but I can't tell you how to do it since mine is DGEV. I do know that they are the same carb.

I started another thread here in Drivetrain Upgrades where I will be narrating the conversion I'm making to the Weber. I don't know when I'll do it yet. One of the parts didn't fit, so I requested a replacement. That could take a few days. Once I get the part and it fits, it won't take too long.
