i went and read up on pinion angles for a few hours at several different sites.first of all every site i went to has different opinion's on the subject imagine that. mytmouz is correct when torque is applied the pinion angel rises .pinion angle changes will all set up under a load weather its a traction bar set up,ladder bar or 4 link set up.changes the least amount with a 4 link set up and changes the most with leaf spring set up.from what i gather reading about,it pinion angle is the last step when tuning your chassis .you must first check the angle of the engine and trans and some times shim the trans at the mount to get the trans level with the yoke at the rear end.with the yoke where the u-joint sits into the yoke sideways .then buy a leveling device from sears or where ever.once every thing is level then you angle your pinion downward a certain amount of degree's all depending on your set up. if its a traction bar set up 6 to 7 degree's if its a ladder bar set up 2 to 3 degree's if its a 4 link set up 1 to 2 1/2 degree's .the whole reason for setting the pinion angle down with out a load is for the reason mytmouz says.when the torque is applied it will raise the pinion angle back to zero.also luv masta is right too if your off more than 3 degree's eiter way under load you can have catastrophic failures as far as bearings u-joints axle's housings etc.there is really so much to this and i only know what i have been reading.but from what i gather there is as much science to chassis tuning is there is engine building or anything else.also all the degree settings for how much to degree your pinion has to do with the power and torque that one is putting to the ground.the numbers i specified if for the 300 to 400hp range.less hp needs less degrees more hp needs more degrees .from what i read some all out race car chassis dont need any degreeing.anyway this is only what i have learned today from reading about it so dont hold me too any of it.i never took the time b 4 to learn any of this but i must say i find it interesting and when all said in done hopefully i am able to hook up.this is just bits and pieces of what i took in reading today there really is allot to know about the subject, and like anything else one can read all they want and the information is good but hands on is every thing in my opinion,so im going to play with it to see what i come up with.im also in the middle of a s10 build up right now for my girl friends son,i will have to play with his settings also.sorry for making every one read so much here and hope i didnt create a monster with this post for the guys who really know whats going on with chassis tuning.but i would like to hear from some of those who have experience with it.oh i bought some slicks for my truck today that helped quite a bit.waiting on my other ordered parts.caltracs, shocks, degree wedges etc.

The pinion tends to rise when torque is applied. This is especially true with leaf spring cars. A negative (downward) pinion angle at rest ( 4 degrees is common ) usually means the pinion is fairly level during acceleration.

In other words, accelerating as much as possible will make your u-joints last longer. :)

i took (luvtogofast) advice,i did the -6 degree pinion.i bought some slicks and cal tracs(erronisme advice).i have drag race shocks on the way from summit 90/10 for the front and the 70/30's for the rear.i also removed the bottom over load spring.any suggestion from anybody how many leaves i should use, thought about removing more..i also removed my front sway bar ,was that a good move if not i can reinstall it.now im in the middle of installing my ebay 250hp cheater.it was a used system and only came with one set of metering jets so i guess thats what i am starting off with.jets are 82 and 91 as soon as i get all the plumbing sorted out i will post a few pics to make shur i have it installed correctly and didnt miss something. going to lower my rear end ratio to either 4.11 or 4.56 im going to be running the 1/8 mile only at a few different tracks.any suggestions on what gear will be better for 660ft.i also have anther question thats many of you should know since i see it on a bunch of trucks here.i want to lower my truck in the rear a bunch.what offset do i need for a 26x8.5 15 mt slick, the tire will actually be 9inches wide,to fit in the wheel well with clearance. for my nos im running two high volume pumps one at the tank and one on the fender well under the hood feeding into a holley regulator with dual outlet and a gauge.i have 3/8 fuel line head to toe.will all of this be enough for the 175hp shot set up.this is my first spray install, have allot to learn about it.i do have 2 different nos books coming though.any info/imput/opinions will be greatly appreciated.

ps i know i have several different questions here and could be asked individually but was hoping to get as much info i can with out adding post in different categories. i also want to thank those for the information i have already revieved.

Terry probably beat me to it , but an 82 nitrous jet is a 250 shot . I'm sure he will lead you in the right direction there .

I run a 26x8.5 with a 4" backspace . My 9" is stock width . I have bent the standard 3 leaf style springs . I run 4 leaf 4x4 rear spring now . I also run a 4.11 with the small tire in the 1/8th mile and have made numerous 6.9? passes with 150 shot . I still have factory shocks .

What did you pull your 9" out of?
Do you know what the flange to flange measurements are?
What kind of carrier?

for the width it would almost have to come out of a 4x4 bronco.one of the old small bronco's,cant wait to see his answer.

Sorry for the delay , the axle came from a 1979 ford bronco . It was full sized same as an F150 . I had it narrowed to fit the truck so I could have made it any size . If I had it to do over I would have made it wider to accept the more plentiful 4.5 or 5.5 back space wheels that fit todays mustangs and Camaros . I run a 4 leaf Mikado 4x4 long bed factory rear spring . I think it is to stiff right now and will probably have to remove a spring .

Well just to update . I had to add weight to the truck for a new drag radial class . On the second qualifying pass it tried to go to the rear bumper and crushed the springs for the 3rd time .
