I am running 4 inches of block right now in the rear of my 78 luv, but i want to go like 2" lower.
So how hard is it to remove a couple of leaf springs?
Should i take the two bottom ones out?
thanks

I don't think I would recommend taking any leafs out of the suspension. I have, back in the day, removed all the leaf springs and arched them, then re installed the leaf springs.

this may be kind getting away from the subject a bit but what about a tortion bar system and a completely different suispention system like in the newer muscle cars or like in (my best example) an rx-7 somethign liek that would greatly increase handling and it would make it easier to modify the ride height with adjustable shocks and so on... just my $0.02 worth its kinda an idea i have been throwing around since i got an old rx sitting in my driveway wich i plan on getting most of the parts for my interior upgrades who knows mabye even the suspention... i guess it depends on how hard it willbe to modify...

You cant take out the bottom one, its the only full length one.

You can remove a few leaves but thats up to you. Start from the top and work your way down. Take extreme care with the centre bolt. Shit can go everywhere when you undo them. You must put one back in and be sure that it locates the diff properly to stop fore and aft movement.
I wouldnt reccomend removing leaves, but then im pretty hard core, "its a truck so if it cant cart a load why did you buy it". But each to thier own. I would advise that you get the spring packs reset (re curved) to a more suitable ride height. Run an inch or maybe 2 inch block, made of something better than crappy chinese alloy, and nice heavy duty U-bolts made out of high grade steel. I dont know about over in the US but here lowering blocks are illegal. Done right i would say that they should pose no trouble at all, but if you open up a readily available kit i can see why they are banned.

I helped a guy this weekend with his truck, he had only the three longest leaves left and had a 2 1/5 and a 2" block in each side. It was pretty crazy. The diff moved about everywhere. Has 17x8's on it and it looks pretty nuts. Full house stockie 2.6L pumping out 87.9kw at the rear wheels on straight LPG (propane) but its also got some butane in it). Cant rememeber how many HP it was.

If your not going to bag it or 4-link it than I would look into having the springs d-arched. Alot of spring companys will arch or d-arch springs for under 150.00. St.Louis Spring did the 16" arched springs for my Blazer and they were 250.00 pair. they did have to build new mains and 2-3 longer ones.

Thanks guys so much for your help!

Today me and a buddy took out my two bottom leafs and the short thick overload leaf.
Then we replaced the four inch blocks (which was two two inchers stacked! thats what i call n***er rigged) with three inch blocks.
It lowered my rear about another two inches and it rides just fine. I might pull one more leaf though cause my front is still about an inch lower than my back.
