if i run it only in the summer here i will but if i make it a daily driver ill need the TBI ... it can get in the low 20* here at times... but a summer show truck or summer driver does sound fun... specially if i get another old austin mini for the winter

I had one as my first car. Awesome. I will be eternally sorry to the god of cars that i killed it. 1100cc and it was pink. It rocked.

Mine was like this at the front

ctman, there was an Austin American for sale in the Corvallis area not too long ago, did you pick that one up? I called him on it, and he said all it needed was a tune up and one air bag...

It was a CL ad, but I can't find it now. I think the car was in Sweet Home...

Was that like a Morris 1100??

Same motor as the mini.

Or was it the 1300cc OHC motor???
I had one of them too. Morris or austin, cant remeber, nomad. It was 1300cc OHC 5 speed. Had disc brakes on the front. It was a 4 door hatch back and it had seats that all laid down flat and made a bed. We cut the front guards and fitted 14" wheels on the front and cut a hole in the roof and used it as a shooting rig.

It looked like this one. He had a small crappy photo of it in the CL ad. I passed on a pair of 2 doors 20 years ago when I lived in Colorado Springs, and always sort of regretted it.

so what kind of trans do you plan on using with the cosworth? mabye an old camaro 4-speed? or even a newer toyota supra 6-speed? and was this the truck your gonna put the IRS on? i guess its not really my business but im really curious about this now it sounds like a bad ass idea, and if nothing else just throw out some ideas (like you of all people need help making a sweet ass LUV right? lol) anyway im gonna be following this post closely cause ive never heard of a cosworth engine before your mentioning it, and its just awesome

nice 8) i wanna do an IRS on my luv but i am afraid to get int such aproject, with the rear being all torn apart anad chopped up i was thinking of just getting another chassi and building another complete drive train including this for it, but how hard would it be to do the dutsun thing with the wrx carrier? or any other for that matter? i do like the camaro tranny though sounds l;ike what ever gearing you get in it would be good with the motor, is it go0nna be a newer one or an old 4-speed? or did they make 5-speeds back then for em??? anyway i guess im just more interested in the irs than anything .. and i did check out your www. it is like a luv truck candy store :ebiggrin well anyway just checkin in i guess...

as the pic shows the datsun carrier has 5 bolts that hold the shafts to the carrier , well the subaru is the same just stronger and more gear option then the 510 all you have to do it swap brackets off subaru shafts to the 510 shafts because the subaru carrier only has a 4 bolt pattern... the reason i don’t want the subaru shaft is because the 510 ones are shorter and don’t need to be cut down like the subaru one would need to be... looks like an easy swap for the luv, and will use a 5 spd borg warner trans

I would be a little dubios on the Subaru rear diff. Thats from an AWD vehicle and i doubt it would like full power through only it, all the time.

I would use an R200 nissan/datsun centre. Stronger than the R180 centre. Heaps of models like the Z series (and R series (skylines) too i think and possibly S series as well) cars used them, they can be got in different ratios and with LSD and are reasonably common, reasonably strong and not that expensive.
The center can be fitted to a 1600 (510) datto, ive seen it done heaps of times.
