Hello,

I just put in a used engine and transmission, both worked flawlessly I was told.
The engine runs great, everything sounds good, but I can't shift.

I can go through the gears with the engine off, no problem, but the clutch doesn't do anything when I try to shift while it's running. For some reason it just won't engage. I have adjusted it to both extremes, feeling no tension, and tons of tension, but each time I get that grinding sound that I never want to hear.

Anyone know what's going on or have an idea?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Caleb

Was this engine/tranny one single unit or were they separate? What was done when you recieved them?

If the engine and transmission were together your clutch disk is rusted/stuck to the pressure plate. If you can, try this-- place the transmission in 4th, push in and hold the clutch down, and while doing this try the starter. Make sure the brake is set good and wheels are blocked. This will many times break it loose. If you have a clutch switch you will have to defeat it first.

Wow, what a simple fix, I went out, jacked up the rear end and did what you said, it worked quickly and now everything works as it should, thank you very much.
