My 1979 Luv is a 4x4. I mentioned in another thread that my plan was to convert it to 2wd. I've been searching and searching for a front suspension system with the correct dimensions from a donor car. I spent the last 2 days scouring the wrecking yard for a sports car to donate the frontend that had a similiar track width. No luck in my area.

Well anyways, I decided to give Chris Alstons a call, and lo and behold!! The G-Machine crossmember!. I've used Chassisworks products in the past, and I'm a little embarassed I didn't have them on my first to call list for my Luv project.

Now, I just need to get all the measurements and order this bad boy! looks like I will be doing a fair amount of cutting up the Luv frame, and doing a good amount of welding.

Once I get the front drivetrain out of the Luv, I will likely have it up for sale if anyone is interested in the Northern California area. The 4x4 Luv frontend is in decent shape, hubs work, nothing bent, gears and bearings are good. My 4x4 was fully functional. I'll be selling the 4x4 tranny too, as far as I can tell it is in good shape as well, no whining, no grinding, goes through gears smoothly.

I'll post my cost for everything once I get all the details hammered out. There are many options to take into consideration, so I am taking my time with deciding on the components. This setup will save countless hours on my end compared to my original plan of using a production frontend out of another vehicle.

Why don't you want the 4x4? How much do you want for it?

The 4x4 doesn't fit into my plans, and building a low slung AWD V8 Street / Autocross Luv is more than I want to bite off and considerably above my fabrication skills.

If I could find a 75' or older 2wd Luv in comparable condition as mine, I would consider a trade though. I haven't had such luck in my area though.

unfortunately, no I haven't. Been gone a couple months, my wife was diagnosed with cancer so the truck has been put on hold. I will certainly get back to it when time and money permits.

Hello, Im kinda new to the LUV thing but I think im going to enjoy it. I just bought a '74 LUV and going to try to make a street/strip/show truck out of it, if all goes well. I checked out the Alston Chassis front end and love it,I will be calling them tomorrow to see how much its going to cost for the improvement. I will let you all know what its going to cost me although it may differ from truck to truck with different options available. MIKE

Not knowing the width of the front end the guy at Alstons Chassie said it would start at $3998.00. WOW thats alot of money. I want the disc brakes and the coil over shocks up front but not sure I want to pay that much. MIKE

Thanks for the support guys, my wife is getting better but we're just taking one day at a time right now as she is still very sick, but gradually getting better. The chemo therapy has really taken a toll on her health.

Anyways, I went out and wiped the dirt off the Luv and spent a day looking it over and dreaming, thinking about everything I want to do, and trying to visualize everything the way I want. So the process of creation has begun once again, and wish lists are beginning to form. I hope to be starting on my project soon, and definately will be documenting the transformation and letting anyone interested to peek in on the stages of my project.

Happy truckin' guys, and thanks again for your support!
