hello everybody im new to the hole luv thing. I bought a 79 luv a couple of months ago. When i first got it, it would run fine for about a minute or two then it would stall out. So i bought a new voltage regulator and still the same.Next i installed a new alt and it ran awsome for 2 days. then one day i shut it off tryed to start it later and nothing. It would turn over just didnt have any spark. So i installed new points, cap, rotor, condenser, and coil and still no spark. Then i read on here how to swap the dizzy out of a 85 pickup into the luv. So i ordered a new dizzy installed just the way i read on here but still no spark. Im at a dead end if anyone could shed a little light on my situation it would be great. thanks

What about your wires. My coil to dizzy wire went bad on me and was giving me grief. I had replaced all the plug wires, but that kit supplied me with a short coil wire so I had never put it on.

Here's the pdf wiring diagram for your truck.

http://www.luvtruck.com/PDF/Series9&10.pdf

There are dozens of threads here on the site about this sort of problem. The types of things that are often the culprit are the igntion switch, dirty fuse box, missing/open grounds and sometimes the clutch switch.
Try a few searches using those key words, and you'll find a lot of information on the wiring in these trucks.

Good luck.

I've searched a lot of those topics. I have an automatic, so its not the clutch switch. And it doesn't seem to be blowing fuses so I'll have to run all my wiring and see if I have a loose ground somewhere. Thanks for the help.

try this run a wire from the + of the bat to the + side of the coil then try to see if it starts if it does you know that the prob lies in the wiring to the coil if it does not help you have something eles but this will save a lot of time
good luck with it aqnd keep us posted

Sounds like one or both of the relays under that mysterious metal cover on the passenger side inner fender. One controls the fuel pump and the other the power to the coil. Plus I believe they are tied together somehow. Your initial symptom of running for a couple minutes is the fuel pump only kicking on when you have the key to start, and not staying on when the motor is running.

Thanks for the help. I'm going to check the relays. I'll keep you all posted on the progress.

SUCCESS i tried running a wire from the + battery to the + coil like billykoe said and i got spark. After a few minutes of turning her over she fired up. So i guess ill stop at napa and see if they can order me a couple of the relays and hopefully thats the problem. But either way i now know i have spark. thanks for all your help guys.
