Has anyone installed a posi unit themselves. I have a s-10 rearend and a posi unit and my budget is tight and I would like to do it myself if it is possible.

You will need a dial indicator to set the backlash and you may have to purchase a shim assortment to set the side clearances, but it's not that hard. If you are going to do any hard launches at all though, I would do away with the crush sleeve and do the spacer thing as the crush sleeve will do just that over time and you will have a loose pinion = expensive. All of this stuff can be found at a 4x4 shop of which there should be plenty of in 'bama. One tip, lot's of people shy awat from this as it looks like a lot of work, so keep any extra shims, charge appropriately, and as people find out you can do it, the extra work will roll in. Easy money...

not to hijack the thread but what is the way to weld the gears to make a posi rear??? and what is this "lock up plug"???
