Need some specifics here if I can. Is there any certain degree of slope that should be on your engine and tranny when installed. I put the 700r4 in and I need to make a new mount. The way it is setting now the round bulge at the end of the tailshaft is resting on the original crossmember and the whole assembly is either level or a little high in the back.
I am afraid I am going to have to notch the cross member to drop it down. Fabbing a mount is not a big deal with angle iron but I dont' have the tools to notch the crossmember if I have to or fab the removable crossmember.
This whole project is about to go up in smoke.
I am seriously considering selling the body to someone with more knowledge and access to the right shop and equipment.
Wished i would have stuck with the 350 tranny.

It really needs to be down slightly at the rear. Don't give up. Another?, do you still have the torsion bars?

That would be great if you get a chance.

Yes I still have the torsion bars. Would like to go to coil overs but kinda limited on funds right now.
Just gotta force myself to not get in a hurry. I drove this thing too much and want to get it back on the road for the cruises. Looks like I'll miss a few again

You know I was thinking. Guess it would be better to pull my cab off to start fabbing the tranny xmember instead of crawling around underneath. That way i can get the slope i want on the engine etc without going back and forth to the floor.
I could go ahead and paint the underneath of the cab also. if I continue with this I am going top smooth out the firewall and put aluminum or stainless steel over it except for the indented part were my distributor sets.
Still wanting to do the coil overs sometime. Might do that first and put the 5 lug front on hold since i don't have the plates or can spend for the coils and Aerospace kit at the same time.

I just put a level on the top of my valve covers and measured at the back of them. When I level it out I am 1 inch lower in the back on the engine with the tranny resting right on top of the xmember. Wonder if I could raise the tranny 1/4 inch off the xmember and mark for my mount there.

I guess on the bright side my driveshaft will still be the same. Heck if i keep at it I won't have nothing but a good running engine and a LUV parts truck sitting on the floor in my basement

Without the torsion bar you can fab a removeable crossmember out of some angle. It works great and is easy to do. Converting to coilovers is easy too.

I saw the link on the forum about the removeable Xmember but don't really like it. I have my cab ready to come off and will set the motor and tranny back on the bare frame.
Can I cut the Xmember and leave the torsion bar on until I get the coil overs and make the mount or can I go ahead and remove the bars while everything is apart.
Just won't be able to drive the truck or get it back together until I do the coil overs. I might have enough monet to come up with the coil overs. Any suggestions on which ones or did you fab your own. This will be a street strip truck not full out race.
I assume I should just cut the Xmember enough for the tranny tailshaft to slip threw if I want to remove it. i did drill holes throught the firewall to reach the tranny to engine mounting bolts from inside the cab.

Does the inch drop sound right on my engine front to back or be more concerned about the angle of the driveshat to rearend yoke. i will take some pics when I get the motor set back on the frame.

I would be more concerned with the angle of the tailshaft that the front to rear drop, which sounds OK. On the coilovers, I just get whichever I can find a good deal on (Usually from the local roundyround guys) and fab from there. I wouldn't be concerned with the super trick multiadjustables until you were well into the 9's atleast.

Was there a TH350 in the truck when ou got it? If so you might want to look into a 200r4 rather than the 700r4. If I remember right the 200r4 is almost a perfect swap to replace the TH350.

yeah I have not yet taken the pictures of the tranny mount but can tonight :) sorry for the delay. I thought that the 200r4 was actually for a four cylinder come to think of it I think it came in the luv as an option? I could be wrong?

well removing the cab is kind of a pain but it would make it easier to deal with for fabbing. I myself wouldn't mind coilovers in the front.

Yep had the 350 in it before and I got the new 700r4 from my son out of his trashed s-10.
I think the 200r4 has the same patern as the 700r4. Depends on what it came out of. Some of the 2.8 had the different bellhousings.

Here is a couple of pics of the coil over conversion on mine. It's pretty simple.

Ahh I see. Tranny mount looks simple. I could actually make it a complete bolt on even the side angle iron,
On the coil overs looks like it is regular shocks with the coil around it and some sort of round brackers for the springs.
Ive got a pair of chrome solid motor mounts I think I can use. They bolt to the block and then a piece of square tubing welded to the frame.
Thanks for the pics.

Yeah it's all pretty simple. Those are Afco non adjustables on the shocks though, not stockers. I'm looking for a deal on a set that will work, I haven't forgotten...

So did you raise your shock mount up at the top by cutting it off and redoing it for the different shocks. Be nice to find a stud mount for the coils.
Gonna try and do my measuring on the tranny mount and cut it out tonight hopefully.. Gotta friend down the street with nice mig welder I am gonna see if i can drag the frame down and get welded what I needed.

You can cut 'em. I have done that on several. It just depends on the shock length. If you order new, you can get one to fit without changing the pocket.
