Here is an idea for a paint job on my 79 luv. i would like some feedback please. Be brutal. I am planning on the purple being either a chamelon purple to red or using the chrysler "Plum Crazy" shade of purple. The black will be a matte black like Duplicolors "Hot rod black".

minus the white would look pretty good Im not a very good visualizer on paint though like my intentions on my jeep with the metallic green I picked turned out lighter than expected but looked nice.

I think it would look good as long as the edge of the flames overlapped onto the black some.
Also, what were you planning to do with the hood?
With the broad strip of white down the side it would look cool with white rally stripes on the hood, but I'd also work in a bit of white into the front of the flames to complete the stripe on the side.

Personally,I am a big fan of the "Re-Entry"type flame job.

I kinda like the idea of all white or all dark and then flames, purple works. Then rally strips might look pretty sharp over the hood, top and tail gate.

I havent thought about the hood and top of the truck. I am not a real big fan of racing stripes on a truck but it might work. The current plan is just the black for the hood and top. The tailgate I have been working on. the name is just something to fill the slot. The tail gate will have a design like this. The design will be white too and the white box is the license plate sunken into the tailgate. The tailgate will be smooth.

I'm not much of a flames guy but I think it would look sharp.

I agree with Ripper, overlap the flames onto the black, maybe 'ghost' them in.

Then you need something behind the rear wheels. The big expanse of white is too much. I'd recommend one of the following:

a) Extend the flames

b) Some kind of logo that's complimentary to your tailgate logo.

c) Move the flames back. Maybe start the flames at the rear of the front wheelwell as if they're rolling out from the engine compartment. Like some guys used to do in the old days.

My 2 cents.

I'll try to find a pic of what I call the "Re-Entry" style flame job.
Basically, instead of the great big flames off the front end only, you would have small flames coming off of all projections and indentations from front to tail.
The bigger the object, the bigger the flame.
