Has anyone done this? Do you in fact have to scrape off every bit of the old dash in order to put on the new one? I have a Series 6 (77) and the shop manual describes a process like that. My truck is in amazing original condition with several but not many big cracks... the dash kind of pushes up around those cracks... I'm wondering if I should forego the $325 replacement if it's going to be a huge job... and just put the CAP that everyone seems to like. Thoughts?

It is a pretty easy job! You have to remove all the old material or the new dash won't lay flat but it comes off really easy. The hardest part is removing all the stuff in the way to get the dash off. (Steering colum, guages, radio and etc). There are pics of when I did mine on my webpage (link below)

Yea, I revamped my site in March and added about 80 new pics.

Well this year is bad for shows for me, the last show my LUV was in was World of Wheels in 1998. I have showed my SS the last 2 years at the Rocky Mountain Truck Fest (July 27) but this year I cant as my truck is not running right now and I have to go to a family reunion that weekend in Wyoming. RMTF is the only show I do any more and I get to miss it this year. My LUV probably wont see shows for a long time until get this taken care of and out of my dads garage in Wyo!
